The correct usage method of the balance weighing cover
Date: 2025-07-14Read: 6

In the process of precision weighing, the balance often fluctuates repeatedly due to environmental airflow fluctuations, electrostatic adsorption, or slight vibrations of the operating table. Especially when measuring trace samples (such as mg level powders or high-sensitivity reagents), the readings are difficult to stabilize, seriously affecting experimental efficiency and accuracy. The airflow mode in the balance weighing cover is a crucial element, and horizontal airflow is more suitable. The top of the cabinet is designed with a closed top, and after being filtered by a HEAP filter, safe and clean air is returned to the room, avoiding the risk of toxic substances falling onto the table and endangering the health of experimenters. At this time, the balance weighing cover becomes a key solution through physical isolation and functional optimization. Next, the editor will introduce the usage method and precautions of the balance weighing cover.

1Preparation before use

1. Check the equipment status

FirstEnsure the level stability of the weighing platform, and then checkCheck if there is an alarm message on the screen of the balance weighing cover, and confirm that the fan and filtration system (such as HEPA or activated carbon filter) of the balance weighing cover are in normal working condition,The front window of the weighing cover should be in the operating position to prevent external airflow interference and affect the weighing indication of the balance.

2. Cleaning and disinfection

Before use, wipe the weighing area with alcohol or a dust-free cloth to remove any residue or dust.If dealing with highly toxic or cross contamination risk substances, UV disinfection should be carried out in advance.

3. Preheating and Calibration

Before using the weighing cover of the balance, preheat the balance for 30 minutes to a stable state. After stabilization, use standard weightsCalibrate the balance to ensure accurate weighing accuracy, especially when handling trace samples.

2、 Environmental control

1. Precise weighing should be completed in a dedicated weighing room, with doors and windows closed, air conditioning vents properly set to avoid external airflow disturbances, and no vibration sources nearby (such as centrifuges, vibrators, etc.)

2. Temperature and humidity regulation keeps the laboratory temperature and humidity stable, with temperatures between 20 ℃ -25 ℃ and humidity between 40% -60%, to avoid affecting weighing accuracy.

IIIStandardization during the operation process

1. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

Wear laboratory gloves (nitrile or latex gloves are recommended), goggles, and lab coats. When handling highly toxic substances, additional masks or respiratory protective equipment can be used.

2. Proper placement of samples and tools

Pre pack the sample to be weighed into clean containers (such as weighing paper, weighing bottles) to avoid direct exposure.Use specialized weighing tools (such as spoons and tweezers), and do not directly touch the sample with your hands.

3. Control airflow and operating posture

Turn on the fan and wait for the airflow to stabilize (usually taking 1-2 minutes). The wind speed in the sensor should be between 0.3m/s-0.5m/s to ensure negative pressure is formed before starting the weighing operation. When operating, try to keep the window opening height open to a width that can fit an arm, in order to reduce external airflow interference. The action should be gentle and avoid rapid movement or collision with the weighing cover, to prevent turbulence of airflow or dust flying from affecting the reading of the balance.

4. Precise weighing techniques

Use a balance weighing cover to reduce the influence of airflow symmetry on the readings.Close the weighing cover door and wait for the reading to stabilize before recording the data. When weighing in small quantities, the container can be placed in advance and peeled (zeroed) before adding the sample.

4Handling after use

1. Cleaning and disinfection

Before turning off the power, wipe the weighing table and internal area with alcohol or specialized cleaning agent.Clean up scattered powder or liquid to avoid residual contamination in subsequent experiments. When dealing with highly active toxic substances, it is necessary to seal and label the waste and dispose of it according to regulations. It is best to choose a weighing cover with delayed closure. After the experiment or cleaning, the system can automatically closeDelay the shutdown of the purification system to prevent the escape of pollutants.

2. Installation, maintenance, and upkeep

Regularly check the surface wind speed, filter status, and downstream air quality. Replace the filter according to the manufacturer's recommended time (such as HEPA filters, which are usually replaced every 24 to 36 months).Record usage logs, including weighing substances, time, and abnormal situations.

Please have professional personnel install and debug the balance weighing cover. The installation position of the balance weighing cover should be more than 20cm away from the window to prevent the filter from getting damp and ensure its service life. The distance from the door should be more than 120cm to facilitate personnel entry and exit and reduce the generation of eddy currents. It is best not to install the balance weighing cover opposite the entrance, and to reserve a distance of more than 200cm from the central air conditioning for air filtration,If you need to clean the acrylic front door, you can use soapy water to clean it, and then rinse it with clean water; Wipe dry with a non friction soft cloth.Clean with a commercially available product with a neutral pH value, and then dry with a non corrosive soft cloth or absorbent paper towel.

5Common Errors and Risk Avoidance

1. Prohibited behavior

Avoid placing items under overload, as it may affect the accuracy of the balance or cause damage.

2. Handling of abnormal situations

If a screen alarm is detected, such as a fan malfunction, surface wind speed alarm, HEPA pressure loss exceeding the standard, or concentration exceeding the standard downstream of the molecular filter, it should be immediately stopped and reported for repair. If there is a leak during the weighing process, immediately stop the operation and keep the purification system working until the concentration in the cabinet drops below the safe value.

VIDisposal of waste

Horizontal airflow inside the cabinet, with a top enclosed designTo avoid the risk of toxic dust falling onto the table during weighing or filter replacement, it is more conducive to the stability of high-precision balance readings. A professional waste recycling device can be selected to collect the waste through recycling bags, avoiding secondary pollution caused by taking it outside the cabinet.
