Structural components of vacuum rake dryer
Date: 2025-12-11Read: 4
Vacuum rake dryer is an intermittent drying equipment designed specifically for heat sensitive, easily oxidizable, or high viscosity materials, widely used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Its core advantage lies in achieving low-temperature and efficient drying through indirect heat transfer and vacuum environment, ensuring material quality. The device is mainly composed of the following key components, each working together to optimize the drying process.
1、 Basic framework: Horizontal cylindrical shell
The shell, as the main container of the equipment, is usually made of corrosion-resistant materials and designed as a horizontal cylindrical structure to accommodate materials. Its outer wall is equipped with a heating jacket, and a heat medium (such as steam or thermal oil) is introduced inside to uniformly heat the material through indirect conduction, avoiding local overheating caused by direct heat sources. The shell is equipped with sealed end caps at both ends, which cooperate with the mixing shaft system to ensure stable operation of the equipment under vacuum conditions.
2、 Mixing shaft system: rake teeth and transmission device
The mixing shaft is the core power component of the dryer, horizontally installed inside the shell and driven by an external transmission device. The rake teeth on the shaft are designed with special features, commonly in the form of paddle blades, arcs, or S-shapes. They achieve material crushing, peeling, and mixing through forward and reverse motion (usually at a speed of 4-10rpm). This design not only promotes uniform heat distribution, but also prevents material clumping, significantly improving drying efficiency. Some models are equipped with striking rods to further assist in crushing hard blocks and optimizing material flowability.
3、 Heating jacket: indirect heat transfer mechanism
The heating jacket is wrapped around the outside of the shell, forming a closed heat transfer channel. Heat medium (such as hot water or steam) circulates inside the jacket, transferring heat to the internal materials through the shell wall, achieving a mild and controllable drying temperature (usually 40-80 ℃). This indirect heating method is particularly suitable for handling heat sensitive substances and avoiding high-temperature degradation.
4、 Vacuum System: Negative Pressure Environment and Solvent Recovery
The vacuum system consists of a vacuum pump, condenser, and solvent recovery tank, responsible for maintaining a negative pressure environment inside the drying chamber (the working vacuum degree is generally -0.08 to -0.095MPa). By lowering the boiling point, the moisture in the material is vaporized at low temperatures, and the solvent is recovered through a condenser, with a solvent recovery rate of over 95%. This system not only accelerates the drying process, but also effectively prevents material oxidation, ensuring product quality.
5、 Sealing system: shaft seal and gas seal device
To ensure the stability of the vacuum environment, the sealing system adopts advanced shaft seal design, such as carbide mechanical seal or gas seal structure. These seals are installed at the connection between the mixing shaft and the housing to prevent gas leakage and external pollutants from entering, while reducing maintenance requirements.
6、 Auxiliary device: feeding/unloading and cleaning interface
The equipment is equipped with convenient feeding ports and discharge valves, usually located at the top or side of the shell, supporting manual or pumped loading, and the filling rate is controlled between 30% -70%. In addition, cleaning the spray interface or jacket flushing device facilitates regular cleaning to prevent material residue from affecting subsequent batches. Some models also integrate mirrors and bag filters for real-time monitoring of drying effects and collection of dust.
7、 Transmission and support structure
The transmission device includes a motor and a reducer, which drive the mixing shaft to run smoothly. The shell is supported by saddle shaped supports to ensure the stability of the equipment during operation. The overall design balances functionality and durability, suitable for continuous processing of high viscosity materials (viscosity ≤ 500000 cP).
Conclusion
The structural design of the vacuum rake dryer reflects engineering precision, with various components working together to achieve efficient and energy-saving drying effects. It has a wide range of applicability, providing reliable solutions for everything from pharmaceutical intermediates to food additives.
