What are the structural characteristics of small rotary evaporators?
Date: 2025-12-25Read: 6
As a commonly used concentration, drying, and recovery equipment in laboratories, small rotary evaporators are widely used in fields such as chemistry and biomedicine due to their structural design that combines efficient evaporation with convenient operation. The core structural characteristics can be summarized as follows:
1. Compact modular design
The small rotary evaporator adopts a floor standing or desktop structure, with a significantly smaller overall volume than conventional models, but retains the standard interface system. Its core components include:
Distillation flask: usually designed in the shape of an eggplant or round bottom, equipped with standard grinding ports for quick connection with the condensing system. The miniaturized version achieves evaporation efficiency comparable to large equipment in a limited space by optimizing the curvature of the bottle body.
Condensation system: Integrated with upright dual serpentine condenser tubes, efficient vapor liquefaction is achieved by increasing the cooling area, and the condensation efficiency is comparable to that of large equipment. Some models adopt a detachable design for easy cleaning and maintenance.
2. Efficient evaporation core component
Rotary drive mechanism: Equipped with a precision motor that supports stepless speed regulation of 50-160 revolutions per minute, the solution forms a uniform liquid film on the bottle wall through constant speed rotation, significantly expanding the evaporation area. This design is particularly suitable for handling heat sensitive samples, avoiding decomposition caused by local overheating.
Intelligent temperature control system: equipped with PID controlled water bath or oil bath heating module, with a small temperature fluctuation range, ensuring stable evaporation process. Water bath heating is suitable for conventional solvents, while oil bath options can be extended to handle high boiling point substances.
Vacuum adaptation interface: Connected to the vacuum pump through a three-way piston, the system can quickly reduce pressure to 400-600 mmHg, lower the boiling point of the solvent, and accelerate the evaporation rate. The interface is sealed with Teflon material to ensure long-term airtightness.
3. User friendly functional design
Convenient operation interface: integrate electronic control panel to realize centralized adjustment of speed, temperature and vacuum. Some models are equipped with automatic lifting function, which can safely lift the flask when power is off to prevent solution backflow.
Safety protection mechanism: Emphasize lightweight glass components and explosion-proof design to reduce operational risks. The interface is assembled with moderate elasticity to avoid damage caused by long-term locking.
Maintenance and optimization of structure: Modular design simplifies the process of sealing ring replacement and cooling pipeline cleaning, and key components such as PTFE switches are easy to disassemble and assemble.
4. Application oriented structural adaptation
In response to laboratory space limitations, small models achieve multifunctionality through structural simplification:
The compact layout of the condenser tube and receiving bottle reduces the escape of solvent vapor.
Support multiple cooling media (such as tap water or circulating water) to meet different experimental needs.
The overall structure emphasizes corrosion resistance and extends the lifespan of equipment in complex chemical environments.
These structural features collectively support the efficient application of small rotary evaporators in scientific research and industry, balancing performance and space utilization.
