Soft fog inhaler is a propellant free quantitative inhalation device widely used for drug delivery in respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Compared with traditional aerosols, it generates small, low-speed, and high lung deposition rate drug mist driven by mechanical energy, significantly improving patient compliance and treatment effectiveness. The performance of a soft fog inhaler relies on the collaborative design of multiple precision components, each of which plays a critical role in the quality of atomization, dosage accuracy, and user experience.

1、 Medicine storage chamber
Using pre filled sealed glass ampoules or plastic storage units, containing precise doses of drug solutions (such as tiotropium bromide/odactyl compound preparations). Its material has strong chemical inertness, ensuring long-term stability of the drug solution; The capacity is usually tens to hundreds of doses, supporting multiple uses. Some models have a dose counting window, which intuitively displays the remaining dose.
2、 Spring driven energy system
SMI does not require batteries or propellants, and relies on the user pressing the knob to release the pre compressed spring, converting mechanical energy into liquid jet kinetic energy. The system has compact structure, high reliability, and is not affected by temperature, which avoids the problem of spray efficiency decline of traditional pMDI at low temperature.
3、 Precision atomizing nozzle
This is the core technology of SMI - the dual microchannel structure formed by laser drilling (with a diameter of about 10-20 μ m). When the drug liquid passes through at high speed, two jets collide at the outlet, forming a small and uniform soft mist (median particle size of about 3-5 μ m), much lower than traditional pMDI (>5 μ m). This particle size is more likely to penetrate deep into the alveoli, with a lung deposition rate of over 40% (pMDI is only 10-20%).
4、 Slow and low-speed atomization characteristics
The speed of SMI spray is about 1 – 2m/s (only 1/10 of pMDI), and the duration is up to 1.5 seconds, so that patients can fully inhale drugs even under the normal inspiratory flow rate (<30L/min), especially for the elderly, children and those with poor hand mouth coordination.
5、 One way valve and air passage
The built-in one-way valve ensures that each press only releases a fixed volume of medication (such as 10-25 μ L) to prevent backflow or leakage; Air inlet design optimizes airflow path, assists in droplet dispersion, and reduces oropharyngeal deposition.
