Common problems and solutions in the operation of suction filters

As a key equipment in water treatment and industrial circulation systems, suction filters achieve medium filtration through negative pressure suction, and have advantages such as compact structure and strong self-cleaning ability. However, in long-term operation, various problems are prone to occur due to factors such as water quality fluctuations and improper operation, which require targeted analysis and treatment.

1、 Decreased filtering effect
This is the most common problem, manifested as excessive turbidity in the effluent or a decrease in impurity retention rate. There are three main reasons: firstly, the filter is clogged, and the accumulation of suspended solids leads to a decrease in the flow area; Secondly, the filter screen is damaged, with local mesh deformation or cracking causing unfiltered media to directly penetrate; The third issue is poor backwashing, as the adsorbed impurities have not been effectively removed. In terms of solution, it is necessary to regularly check the integrity of the filter screen (such as using an endoscope or differential pressure monitoring), and replace it promptly if any damage is found; Optimize backwash parameters (such as adjusting backwash pressure, time, and frequency), and if necessary, add a pre coated filter aid layer to enhance interception effect; For high turbidity conditions, a pre sedimentation tank can be used to reduce the inflow load.
2、 Backwash system failure
Backwashing relies on high-pressure water or gas-liquid hybrid power to remove impurities from the filter screen. If the output of the backwash pump is insufficient, the nozzle is blocked, or the timing control is disrupted, it will result in weak backwashing. For example, when the nozzle is blocked by scale or fiber entanglement, the backwash water flow distribution is uneven, and local areas cannot be cleaned. When solving the problem, it is necessary to regularly disassemble and clean the nozzle, and check the operating status of the pump body (such as impeller wear and seal leakage); Calibrate the backwash program to ensure that the process of "air washing looseness first and then water washing peeling" matches the actual working conditions; For water that is prone to scaling, scale inhibitors can be added to the backwash water.
3、 Abnormal equipment vibration and noise
If there is obvious vibration or abnormal noise during operation, it is often due to unstable installation foundation, rotor dynamic balance imbalance, or bearing wear. For example, if the suction nozzle is too close to the bottom of the pool to suck in sediment, or if the filter screen is partially blocked and fluid disturbance intensifies, resonance will occur. When solving the problem, it is necessary to reinforce the equipment base and recalibrate the levelness; Lubricate and maintain rotating components (such as backwash pump bearings), and regularly check dynamic balance; Adjust the position of the suction port to avoid inhaling high concentration sediment areas.
4、 Abnormal increase in energy consumption
The increase in energy consumption may be due to an increase in filter resistance (requiring higher suction to maintain flow), a decrease in pump efficiency, or valve leakage. By comparing historical energy consumption curves and combining pressure difference data, the source of resistance can be determined: if the filter is clogged, it is necessary to strengthen backwashing or shorten the filtration cycle; If the pump unit is aging, the motor needs to be repaired or the high-efficiency impeller needs to be replaced; Simultaneously inspect pipeline valves and repair internal leaks to reduce ineffective work.
