3 key factors for choosing a vacuum centrifugal concentrator
Date: 2025-08-13Read: 4

In modern laboratories, vacuum centrifuge concentrator is one of the important equipment for sample pretreatment. It can efficiently concentrate samples through the synergistic effect of centrifugal force, vacuum, and heating, and is widely used in multiple fields such as biology, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals. However, facing the dazzling array of vacuum centrifuge concentration products on the market, how can one choose equipment that suits their laboratory needs? Below, we will provide a detailed introduction to three key factors for you.

1、 Match sample characteristics
The requirements for vacuum centrifugal concentrators vary greatly among different types of samples. In biological experiments, intracellular active substances such as protein nucleic acids are concentrated. Due to their sensitivity to temperature, these substances need to be operated at low temperatures to prevent denaturation and inactivation. At this time, frozen or low-temperature acid and alkali resistant models should be selected. For example, in protein purification experiments, a low-temperature vacuum centrifuge concentrator can remove solvents such as buffer solutions mixed in the sample, increase protein concentration while maintaining its activity; In nucleic acid research, low temperature helps to remove solvents from the extraction solution, improve the purity and concentration of nucleic acids, and avoid degradation of nucleic acids during the concentration process.
Chemical synthesis experiments often involve a lot of corrosive reagents, so it is necessary to choose acid alkali resistant and low-temperature acid alkali resistant products with anti-corrosion properties (depending on whether low temperature is needed). When the equivalent is particularly large, high flux infrared products are more suitable. For environmental monitoring and food testing experiments, basic touch screen models, button models, acid and alkali resistant models (when corrosive reagents are present), etc. can be selected. In addition, if the laboratory space is limited, built-in vacuum pumps and integrated vertical instruments can be considered to save space.
2、 Focus on concentration efficiency
The concentration efficiency is directly related to the progress and output of the experiment. The concentration efficiency is mainly affected by parameters such as centrifugal force, vacuum degree, and heating function of the equipment. High centrifugal force can make the sample more evenly distributed in the centrifuge tube, increase the evaporation area, and accelerate the concentration rate; High vacuum degree can lower the boiling point of solvents, allowing them to evaporate rapidly at lower temperatures. This is particularly important for thermosensitive samples, as it can improve concentration efficiency and protect sample activity; Appropriate heating function can provide additional energy for solvent evaporation, accelerating solvent vaporization, but the heating temperature needs to be precisely controlled to avoid sample overheating and damage. When making a purchase, it is important to pay attention to the parameters and indicators of the equipment, and choose based on the concentration time requirements of one's own experiments. For example, some devices claim to have efficient concentration capabilities and can process large amounts of samples in a short period of time. Users need to refer to actual parameters and other users' usage evaluations to determine whether they can truly meet their needs.
3、 Emphasize safety performance
Safety is an important factor that cannot be ignored when choosing any laboratory equipment. During operation, the material of the equipment is crucial, especially for the parts in contact with the sample and solvent. Corrosion resistant, non-toxic and harmless materials should be selected to prevent contamination of the sample and corrosion damage to the equipment. At the same time, attention should be paid to whether the instrument has explosion-proof function, especially when dealing with flammable and explosive solvents. Explosion proof design can effectively avoid safety accidents. Overheating protection is also a necessary function. When the heating temperature of the equipment rises abnormally, the overheating protection device should be able to start in a timely manner, cut off the heating power supply, and prevent equipment failure or even fire caused by overheating. In addition, the overall stability of the equipment cannot be ignored. A stable body design can reduce the vibration and noise during instrument operation, ensuring the safety and comfort of the experimental environment.
