The vacuum decay leak detector is based on the vacuum decay method for testing. During testing, the test sample is first placed in an emission testing chamber that is tightly connected to the pneumatic leak testing system, which is equipped with an external vacuum source. Then, empty the testing chamber with the dead zone of the testing system for a predetermined period of time to achieve the selected target vacuum level (which is predetermined based on the type of test sample being evaluated). Next, isolate the vacuum source from the testing system, and after a brief period of system equilibrium, use absolute or differential pressure sensors to monitor the increase in pressure inside the chamber for a predetermined length of time (i.e. vacuum decay). An increase in pressure beyond the predetermined pass/fail limit indicates a container leak.
The vacuum decay leak detector is suitable for testing the sealing integrity of various packaging materials, including penicillin bottles, ampoules, infusion bottles, pre filled needles, eye drops bottles, and other large and small volume injection and freeze-dried products. At the same time, it is also applicable for trace leak detection of food packaging such as bagged, canned, bottled, and for integrity leak detection of sealed containers.
