What are the mitigation measures for the high energy consumption of air-cooled chillers?
Date: 2022-07-05Read: 0
The reason for ice formation in air-cooled refrigeration units
The occurrence of icing failure is mainly due to excessive moisture in the air-cooled refrigeration unit. As the refrigerant continues to circulate, the moisture in the refrigeration system gradually concentrates at the outlet of the capillary tube. Due to the low temperature at the outlet of the capillary tube, the water forms ice and gradually increases, blocking the capillary tube to a certain extent. The refrigerant cannot circulate, resulting in the air-cooled refrigeration unit not cooling.
The main source of moisture in the air-cooled refrigeration unit system is that the insulation paper of the compressor motor contains moisture, which is the main source of moisture in the air-cooled refrigeration unit system. In addition, residual moisture in the components and connecting pipes of the refrigeration system due to insufficient drying; The refrigeration oil and refrigerant contain more than the allowable amount of moisture; During assembly or maintenance, the pipeline is in a developmental state for a long time, causing moisture in the air to be absorbed by the motor insulation paper and refrigeration oil.

Performance of air-cooled refrigeration unit after icing
Ice formation causes the refrigerant to be unable to circulate, and the air-cooled refrigeration unit cannot cool properly; On the other hand, moisture can also undergo chemical reactions with refrigerants, generating HCL and HF (hydrogen fluoride), causing corrosion of metal pipelines and components, and even damaging the insulation of motor windings. At the same time, it can also cause the deterioration of refrigeration oil, affecting the lubrication of compressors. Therefore, it is necessary to control the moisture in the system to a minimum. The manifestation of ice blockage in the air-cooled refrigeration unit system is that it works normally in the initial stage, frost forms in the evaporator, the condenser dissipates heat, the unit runs smoothly, and the sound of refrigerant activity in the evaporator is clear and stable.
