Maintenance and upkeep methods for reverse osmosis desalination equipment
Date: 2025-06-06Read: 6
Reverse osmosis desalination equipment is a device that uses the principle of reverse osmosis technology to desalinate seawater. The composition of the reverse osmosis marine water generator includes a water intake system, a pretreatment system, a seawater desalination system, an energy recovery system, a chemical cleaning system, a chemical dosing system, as well as a device power supply and distribution and self-control system. The entire equipment consists of a pretreatment system, reverse osmosis system, electrical control system, cleaning system, and dosing system.
The maintenance and upkeep methods of reverse osmosis desalination equipment mainly include the following aspects:
1. Daily maintenance:
• Automatic operation: The switch corresponding to the system should be in the automatic position, and the RO system will automatically flush for 3 minutes. At this time, the discharge valve will automatically open.
Manual operation: Open the RO inlet valve to allow water to directly enter the RO system, and open the flushing discharge valve to drain water before starting the water supply pump.
2. Short term shutdown protection:
If the downtime of the reverse osmosis equipment is less than 15 days, low-pressure flushing can be used to protect the equipment. When the water temperature is above 20 ℃, low-pressure flushing should be carried out every 2 or 1 day; When the water temperature is below 20 ℃, low-pressure flushing should be carried out every 3 days.
3. Long term shutdown protection:
If the reverse osmosis equipment is planned to be out of service for more than 15 days, protective liquid (disinfectant) can be filled into the reverse osmosis device of the water purification equipment for protection. The commonly used formula for fungicides is 10% formaldehyde (mass fraction), 20mg/L isothiazolinone, and 1% sodium bisulfite (mass fraction).
4. Chemical cleaning:
Chemical cleaning is an important means of restoring the performance of reverse osmosis membranes. The cleaning frequency is generally once every 3-12 months. If cleaning is required once a month, it indicates that the pre-treatment system needs improvement; If cleaning is required every 1-3 months, it is necessary to improve the operational level of the equipment.
Suitable cleaning agents, such as citric acid, should be used for cleaning calcium carbonate scale during cleaning.
5. Preventive measures:
Regularly disinfect to control the growth of organisms on the membrane surface. Acetate cellulose membrane can contain 0.3-1.0ppm of free chlorine in the water supply, while for CPA membrane, the use of oxidizing fungicides is limited.
Regular low-pressure flushing and disinfection during long-term shutdown to prevent biological growth.
