Twin screw pumps are widely used in industries such as chemical, petroleum, and food due to their high efficiency and stable conveying performance. However, they may malfunction during long-term operation due to issues such as operation, medium, or wear and tear. Timely identification of fault phenomena and taking targeted measures can significantly improve equipment reliability. The following are common faults and their solutions:
1. Severe vibration or abnormal noise of the pump body
Fault phenomenon: accompanied by obvious vibration or harsh noise during operation, which may affect surrounding equipment.
Main reason: Loose due to unstable installation; Air leakage or blockage in the suction pipeline; Motor bearings are damaged; The spindle is bent or not concentric with the motor.
Solution: Strengthen the installation foundation of the pump body, check and tighten the connectors; Clean the suction pipeline filter and eliminate the leakage point; Replace damaged motor bearings; Correct the bent spindle or adjust the concentricity between the motor and pump.
2. Overheating of transmission shaft or motor bearings
Fault phenomenon: Abnormal temperature rise in the bearing area may trigger overheating protection.
Main reasons: insufficient or deteriorated lubricating oil; The bearing has ruptured due to long-term wear and tear.
Solution: Regularly replenish or replace lubricating oil that meets specifications; Disassemble and inspect the bearings. If any cracks or severe wear are found, replace them with new parts immediately.
3. The pump heats up and its efficiency decreases
Fault phenomenon: The surface temperature of the pump body is too high, and the output flow rate is reduced.
Main reasons: Increased friction of internal rotating components (such as screws); Mechanical seal oil return hole blockage; The oil temperature is too high; Installation accuracy deviation leads to component misalignment.
Solution: Check and replace worn screws or seals; Clear the oil return hole to ensure lubrication circulation; Optimize the cooling system to reduce oil temperature; Re calibrate the installation position to ensure that the components are concentric.
4. No traffic output or insufficient traffic
Fault phenomenon: The pump is running but the medium cannot be discharged, or the output flow rate is significantly lower than the normal value.
Main reasons: blockage or air leakage in the suction pipeline; Inhalation height exceeds the design limit; Motor direction error; Excessive viscosity of the medium leads to difficulty in inhalation.
Solution: Clean up foreign objects in the suction pipeline and repair the leakage point; Reduce installation height or increase auxiliary suction device; Adjust the motor wiring to correct the direction of rotation; Preheat or dilute high viscosity media.

5. Mechanical seal leakage
Fault phenomenon: There is medium leakage at the sealing part, which may pollute the environment.
Main reason: The sealing material is incompatible with the medium; Insufficient pressure in the flushing system.
Solution: Replace the corrosion-resistant sealing material; Revamp the flushing system and install pressure monitoring devices.
6. Pump tripping or motor overload
Fault phenomenon: Sudden shutdown during operation, triggering of motor protection device.
Main reasons: The solidification of the medium (such as resin crystallization) leads to blockage of the pump chamber; The motor load exceeds the rated value.
Solution: Thoroughly rinse the pump chamber with solvent before stopping to prevent crystallization; Check if the motor power matches and upgrade the equipment if necessary.
7. Pressure fluctuations or inability to establish pressure
Fault phenomenon: Unstable outlet pressure, affecting system control accuracy.
Main reasons: Insufficient import supply (such as low liquid level or pipeline blockage); Internal component wear leading to leakage; The safety valve is set incorrectly.
Solution: Ensure sufficient liquid level at the inlet and clean the blocked pipeline; Check the gap between the screw and the liner, and replace worn parts; Calibrate the set pressure of the safety valve.
Maintenance Recommendations
Preventive measures: Regularly check the condition of lubricating oil and component wear to avoid dry running.
Operation standard: Before starting, ensure that the pump chamber is filled with medium to prevent cavitation; Thoroughly flush residual materials during shutdown.
Through systematic fault diagnosis and maintenance, the lifespan of twin-screw pumps can be significantly extended and production continuity can be ensured.
