Butterfly valve is a commonly used fluid control valve, which is widely used in pipeline systems due to its simple structure, small volume, and fast opening and closing characteristics. Proper installation and disassembly are key to ensuring the normal operation and extending the service life of butterfly valves. The following are precautions for installing and disassembling butterfly valves:
1、 Installation precautions
Preparation before installation
Check whether the butterfly valve model and specifications match the pipeline system (such as pressure rating, medium type, temperature, etc.).
Clean the interior of the pipeline to ensure no welding slag, impurities, or foreign objects, and avoid damaging the sealing surface.
Confirm the flow direction identification of the butterfly valve, and ensure that the valve direction is consistent with the flow direction of the medium during installation (usually indicated by arrows on the valve body).
Installation position and direction
Avoid installing butterfly valves at pipeline bends or stress concentration locations to prevent leakage caused by vibration or uneven stress.
Horizontal or vertical installation is acceptable, but it is necessary to ensure that the valve plate rotation axis is perpendicular to the pipeline axis and that there is sufficient space for the valve stem operation direction (for manual or electric operation).
Flange connection requirements
The flange bolts should be tightened evenly diagonally to avoid insufficient sealing caused by one-sided force (it is recommended to use a torque wrench to operate according to the standard torque).
The flange sealing gasket should be made of materials compatible with the medium (such as rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc.) to avoid failure due to corrosion or high temperature.
Operation precautions
After installation, manually open and close the valve several times to confirm that the valve plate rotates flexibly without any obstruction.
Electric or pneumatic butterfly valves need to check the matching between the actuator and the valve, and adjust the stroke limit to avoid overload damage.
Special media processing
If the medium is a fluid with high temperature, corrosiveness or high particulate matter, it is necessary to choose sealing materials that are resistant to high temperature and corrosion (such as metal hard seal butterfly valves).
2、 Disassembly precautions
Preparation before disassembly
Close the pipeline system, empty the medium and relieve pressure to ensure safe operation.
Before disassembling electric or pneumatic actuators, it is necessary to cut off the power or gas source and take protective measures.
Dismantling sequence
Loosen the flange bolts in order to avoid directly tapping the valve body or stem and prevent deformation.
When disassembling the connecting parts between the valve stem and the actuator, pay attention to protecting the threads and sealing surfaces.
Cleaning and Inspection
After disassembly, clean the inside of the valve body, valve plate, and sealing surface, and check for wear, corrosion, or deformation.
If the sealing ring or gasket is damaged, it is necessary to replace it with accessories of the same specification in a timely manner (avoiding mixing different materials or models).
Storage and maintenance
The disassembled butterfly valve should be stored in a dry and ventilated place to avoid the valve plate being in an open or closed state for a long time (it is recommended to use a half open position).
Butterfly valves that are not used for a long time need to be coated with rust proof grease to protect metal parts.
3、 Common problems and solutions
Valve leakage: Check whether the sealing ring is aging or worn, and whether the flange bolts are loose.
Valve plate blockage: It may be due to impurities blocking or rusting of the valve shaft, and the valve stem needs to be cleaned and lubricated.
Excessive operating torque: Check if the actuator is matched or if the medium pressure inside the pipeline is too high.
summary
The installation and disassembly of butterfly valves must be strictly carried out in accordance with the operating specifications, with a focus on sealing, uniform force distribution, and medium compatibility. Regular maintenance, such as lubricating valve stems and inspecting seals, can significantly extend the lifespan of valves. For special working conditions such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media, it is recommended to choose a professionally designed butterfly valve and consult the manufacturer's technical support.
