Maintenance and upkeep of low-temperature emergency shut-off valve
Date: 2024-12-30Read: 5
Low temperature emergency shut-off valves are widely used in low-temperature pipeline systems in industries such as petroleum, chemical, natural gas, metallurgy, refrigeration, and food.
The maintenance and upkeep of low-temperature emergency shut-off valves in winter mainly include the following aspects:
‌•Maintenance of pneumatic actuator: Pneumatic actuator is an important component of emergency shut-off valve, and its working status directly affects the shut-off performance of the valve. In winter, lubricating oil suitable for low-temperature environments should be selected and regularly inspected and replaced to ensure the flexibility of the actuator action. At the same time, regularly check the working status of the pneumatic actuator to ensure its sensitivity and accuracy in action.
‌•Regular cleaning and lubrication: Emergency shut-off valves are susceptible to erosion and contamination from various media during operation, so regular cleaning of the valve body and interior is essential. When cleaning, pay attention to using appropriate tools and cleaning agents to avoid damage to the valve body and sealing surface. In addition, regularly lubricate the components of the valve to reduce wear and extend its service life.
‌•Insulation measures: Low temperatures in winter can easily cause water inside the emergency shut-off valve to freeze, affecting the normal operation of the valve. Therefore, it is necessary to wrap insulation materials such as rock wool, glass wool, etc. outside the valve to reduce heat loss and maintain a relatively stable internal temperature of the valve. For pneumatic actuators exposed outdoors, appropriate insulation measures should also be taken to prevent internal components from failing due to low temperatures.
‌•Regularly check the drainage system: Low temperatures in winter can easily cause condensation or freezing inside the pneumatic emergency shut-off valve. The drainage device of the pneumatic emergency shut-off valve should be checked regularly to ensure that it is unobstructed, and the water inside the valve should be promptly removed to prevent water from freezing and causing damage to the valve.
‌•Check and replace seals: Low temperature may cause rubber seals to harden and shrink, affecting the sealing effect. Therefore, the frequency of checking the sealing performance of valves should be increased in winter. Once poor sealing is found, the sealing components should be replaced in a timely manner to ensure the normal closing and opening of the valve. The sealing surface of the emergency shut-off valve should also be regularly inspected. If the sealing surface is worn or damaged, it should be ground or replaced in a timely manner.
‌•Develop emergency plans and conduct drills: Despite taking various maintenance measures, emergency shut-off valves may still encounter unexpected situations in winter. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a comprehensive emergency plan and conduct regular drills. The contingency plan should include fault diagnosis, emergency response measures, personnel evacuation, etc., to ensure rapid response in case of emergencies.
