Principle and Application Fields of Low Voltage Discharge Leak Detector
Date: 2025-05-19Read: 6
Low voltage discharge leak detector is a device based on gas discharge characteristics to detect leaks. Its core principle is to determine the sealing of the tested system by monitoring the changes in gas discharge phenomena in low-pressure environments. The specific principle can be divided into the following steps:
1. Gas ionization and discharge: Applying a high-voltage electric field in a closed chamber, residual gas molecules are ionized to produce glow discharge or corona discharge when the pressure drops to a certain range, forming measurable current or light signals.
2. Leakage gas interference: If there is a leakage in the tested system, external gas will seep into the chamber, changing the composition or pressure of the internal gas, resulting in significant changes in discharge characteristics (such as breakdown voltage, discharge current intensity, or spectral characteristics).
3. Signal analysis and localization: By capturing abnormal changes in discharge parameters through sensors (such as voltage fluctuations, sudden increases in current, or changes in specific wavelength light intensity), combined with circuit or algorithm processing, the leakage location and degree can be determined.
‌Low voltage discharge method leak detector mainlyApplied in the following fields:
1. Vacuum equipment testing: used for cavity and pipeline sealing testing in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and vacuum coating, to ensure high vacuum environment stability.
2. Refrigeration system leak detection: detect small leaks in refrigerant circulation systems such as air conditioners and refrigerators to avoid refrigerant loss and efficiency decline.
3. Closed container quality inspection: Inspect gas cylinders and sealed containers for defects in the medical and chemical fields to ensure storage safety.
4. Scientific research experiment monitoring: applied to precision experimental devices such as high-energy physics and aerospace simulation to prevent environmental gas interference with experimental results.
The advantage of this method lies in its high sensitivity (able to detect up to 10 ⁻⁵ Pa · m ³/s) and fast response speed, but it has poor selectivity for gas types and requires operation in low-pressure environments, which limits its applicability in certain scenarios.
