What are the precautions for the use of organic solvent spray dryer?
Date: 2025-12-23Read: 5
Organic solvent spray dryers are widely used in pharmaceutical, chemical, food and other industries for efficient drying of liquid materials, but the flammability, toxicity and explosion risks of organic solvents require extra caution in operation. The following are key precautions when using this device, covering safety, operation, and maintenance aspects to ensure efficient operation of the device and ensure personnel safety.
1、 Safety preparation before operation
Before starting the equipment, a comprehensive safety check must be conducted to eliminate potential hazards. Firstly, ensure that the working environment is well ventilated and equipped with explosion-proof design, such as forced exhaust systems and combustible gas alarms, to prevent solvent vapor accumulation from causing fires or explosions. Operators need to wear anti-static clothing and control the environmental humidity between 45% -65% to reduce the risk of static sparks. Secondly, check the sealing of the equipment, use nitrogen pressure holding method to test the pipeline, and focus on detecting high-risk leakage points such as rotary joints and flanges to ensure that the system has no solvent leakage. In addition, verify the interlocking function of the explosion-proof system, such as the alarm response of the oxygen content analyzer and temperature sensor, to ensure that nitrogen protection can be quickly triggered in case of abnormalities.
2、 Key controls during the operational phase
During operation, it is necessary to dynamically monitor parameters to prevent accidents from occurring. Controlling the inlet air temperature is crucial to avoid excessive solvent evaporation or material denaturation caused by high temperatures. For example, the temperature of ethanol solvents should not exceed 120 ℃. Adjust the pressure and feeding speed of the atomizer to ensure uniform atomization and prevent wet powder accumulation or uneven drying, which may affect product quality. Real time monitoring of system pressure, solvent concentration, and recovery rate to maintain a slight negative pressure state and minimize the risk of explosion. Operators should be prohibited from opening maintenance doors or touching rotating parts during operation to prevent mechanical injury or solvent vapor leakage.
3、 Shutdown and Maintenance Standards
The shutdown steps should be executed in an orderly manner to ensure safe cooling of the equipment. Stop feeding first and wait for the temperature of the drying tower to drop below 80 ℃ before turning off the heating system and fan to avoid damaging the equipment with waste heat. Thoroughly clean the atomizer, piping, and drying chamber with clean water or solvent to prevent residue blockage or corrosion. Regular maintenance includes checking atomizer wear, filter bag cleanliness, and bearing lubrication, calibrating temperature and pressure instruments to ensure data accuracy. These measures can extend the lifespan of equipment and maintain efficient operation.
4、 Abnormal situation handling plan
In the face of unexpected situations, it is necessary to establish a rapid response process. If the oxygen content exceeds the standard or the temperature is abnormal, immediately trigger the nitrogen emergency filling valve to urgently replace the system gas. During a fire, prioritize using carbon dioxide fire extinguishing systems to avoid solvent diffusion caused by water-based fire extinguishing agents. Operators should be familiar with evacuation routes to ensure the shortest emergency response time and minimize losses.
By following the above precautions, the operation risk of organic solvent spray dryer can be significantly reduced to ensure production safety and product quality. Regular equipment maintenance and personnel training are the core of accident prevention and must be strictly implemented.
