What factors determine the curing degree of waterborne epoxy?
Date: 2024-01-31Read: 5
The high viscosity epoxy resin high shear emulsifier material is quickly dispersed, emulsified, and homogenized by the stator and rotor after entering the equipment cavity, and the particle size distribution range is significantly narrowed, resulting in more uniform material mixing. Pipeline type high shear dispersing emulsifier is a high-performance equipment used for continuous production or cyclic processing of fine materials. It is equipped with a set of dual interlocking multi-layer fixed and rotating rotors in a narrow cavity. When the rotor rotates at high speed, it generates strong axial suction to suck the material into the cavity and start rapid processing. Widely applicable to working conditions without hygiene requirements.
Waterborne epoxy is a multiphase system, in which epoxy resin and curing agent are dispersed in the aqueous phase in a dispersed form. The cross-linking and curing process is a process of internal diffusion cross-linking reaction between particles during the evaporation of water. Therefore, the degree of curing of waterborne epoxy depends on the following four factors:
a) Hydrophilic and oleophilic equilibrium values: The hydrophilic and oleophilic equilibrium values of waterborne epoxy resin and waterborne epoxy curing agent are close, reaching a stable coexistence state in the aqueous phase. If there is a large difference, the components with stronger hydrophilicity will gradually aggregate in the aqueous phase, leading to the separation of resin phase and curing agent phase;
b) Particle size: When the particle size is small, the dispersed phase particles of waterborne epoxy resin and waterborne epoxy curing agent can fully penetrate into the core and achieve a higher degree of curing;
c) Compatibility: The better the compatibility between water-based epoxy resin and water-based epoxy curing agent, the more favorable it is for the internal diffusion of curing agent particles and epoxy resin particles, which is conducive to the progress of curing reaction;
d) Uniformity of dispersion: In the state of multiphase separation, only through certain mechanical stirring can the resin phase and curing agent phase be evenly distributed in the aqueous phase; (It is very important to stir and mix epoxy evenly in application) (Some friends believe that simple stirring or even no stirring can form a film when using oil-based epoxy. However, this is a big misconception because the oil-based epoxy used is dissolved from solid epoxy, such as 75% E-20. Even without a curing agent, the solvent can evaporate and form a very hard dry film state. However, this dry film is not crosslinked and cured by a curing agent, and becomes liquid when heated, and the dry film has no performance at all).
