In physical and chemical laboratories and microbiology laboratories, fume hoods are the core equipment to ensure experimental safety, but due to the different nature of the experiments, there are differences in the selection criteria between the two. Here are specific selection suggestions:
1、 Selection of ventilation cabinets for physical and chemical laboratories
Core requirementsChemical corrosion, fire and explosion prevention, efficient ventilation
Material:
PP (polypropylene) fume hood: resistant to strong acids and alkalis (such as hydrofluoric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid), suitable for wet digestion and corrosive experiments.
Stainless steel fume hood: 316 stainless steel is recommended, which is corrosion-resistant and fire-resistant, suitable for high-temperature experiments or organic solvent use.
Epoxy resin coated steel plate: High cost-effectiveness, suitable for general chemical experiments.
Functional design:
Explosion proof type: equipped with explosion-proof motor and fire damper, used for flammable and explosive reagents
Ventilation type: External ventilation system reduces indoor energy consumption (suitable for long-term operation).
VAV variable air volume control: automatically adjusts wind speed according to operational requirements, energy-saving and stable.
Exhaust requirements
Wind speed: The wind speed in the conventional operation area needs to reach 0.5~0.8 m/s (for high toxicity experiments, it needs to be ≥ 1.0 m/s).
Pipeline: anti-corrosion (such as PVC or FRP material) is required, and the exhaust outlet should be kept away from the fresh air inlet.
2、 Selection of Ventilation Cabinet for Microbial Laboratory
Core requirements:Biological pollution control, easy sterilization, and airflow isolation
Type selection:
Grade II A2 type: 30% circulating exhaust to protect samples and operators (routine microbiological experiments).
Grade II B2 type: 100% efflux, used for high-risk pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Biosafety Cabinet (BSC):
Ordinary exhaust cabinet: only used for non pathogenic microorganisms or inactivation operations, and needs to be equipped with HEPA filters.
Key Features
HEPA filter: with a filtration efficiency of ≥ 99.99% for 0.3 μ m particles, regular leak detection is required.
Seamless stainless steel inner cavity: avoids dead corners and facilitates fumigation disinfection (such as hydrogen peroxide sterilization).
Negative pressure design: Ensure that the airflow does not leak out, especially in P2 and above level laboratories.
3、 General precautions
Installation and maintenance
The fume hood should be kept away from areas with frequent human movement to avoid airflow interference.
Regularly check the wind speed, filter resistance, and sealing (physical and chemical cabinets are certified every six months, and biosafety cabinets are certified annually).
special requirements
Radiation experiment: A lead lined fume hood is required, and the exhaust air is filtered through a specialized filter.
High temperature experiment: The fume hood needs to be made of high-temperature resistant materials (such as ceramic fiber lining).
