Braskem uses Inteco's product to weigh a 448 ton container in its polypropylene production. Despite harsh environmental conditions, Intico's high-precision weighing solution can still ensure accurate results.

customer

Braskem is the largest polypropylene producer and biopolymer producer in the United States. Braskem is active in the chemical and petrochemical industries and plays an important role in other production chains that are crucial for economic development. Chemicals and plastics help create sustainable solutions that improve people's lives in areas such as housing, food, and transportation.

key points

For the new polypropylene factory with an annual output of 450 tons, a weighing solution that can withstand harsh environmental conditions is needed. Polypropylene is the second most common standard plastic, mainly used as a packaging material.

application

Yintaike provides specially designed weighing solutions for weighing empty cans used for cleaning polypropylene particles, as well as cans containing raw materials and waste materials.

product

-PR 6201 load cell and improved PR 6144 installation kit

-Use PR 6201 weighing sensor and PR 6001 weighing platform

Benefits brought to customers

-High precision weighing sensors with explosion-proof area certification can provide maximum safety

-Specially developed installation kits and cable boxes ensure safety during the production process

-By modifying the precise fitting of the weighing solution

Project objectives and implementation

This factory produces a full range of polypropylene products, such as homopolymers, random copolymers, and impact copolymers. For two of these applications, precise weighing solutions are required to provide accurate results even under challenging conditions. The environmental conditions in the Houston area and the size and weight of the components to be weighed have had a special impact:

The weighing technology must be able to continue operating normally without interruption after events such as heavy rain, hurricanes, frost, or earthquakes occur. Braskem entrusted the planning and installation of weighing technology to Linde Engineering, which chose Intico's weighing technology. Yintaike has developed three different sizes of platform scales for weighing cans containing raw materials and waste materials.

Yintaike's weighing solution not only meets environmental and high load requirementsRequirement: They also ensured that the efficiency and output of the largest polypropylene production in North America were improved

From the perspective of environmental conditions and the load to be weighed, standard platform scales cannot be used here, and PR 6201 series weighing sensors are required to customize container weighing in the weighing solution. In the further production process, a 450 ton cleaning container needs to be weighed. The maximum total weight weighed is approximately 1186 tons. For this purpose, Intico installed 8 PR 6201 series weighing sensors under the ring beam of the container, using the PR 6144 series installation kit developed specifically for high demand earthquake prone areas.

Even under high lateral forces (2000 kN), this weighing solution ensures maximum safety. According to customer requirements, Intico has developed project specific weighing sensor prostheses, as well as pressure and foot components for weighing sensors. These additional solutions enable the weighing sensor to be replaced without any issues when the container is lifted up to 5 mm. The weighing is carried out in two measurement circuits, each with four weighing sensors, connected to a weighing point on the Maxxis 5 process controller through two specially developed cable boxes with knife disconnect terminals (compliant with NEC 500 requirements). Despite the high load, the modified installation kit can still be easily maintained.

The Maxxis 5 process controller is installed in a heatable enclosure (for hazardous areas as required) to ensure optimal operating temperature and required explosion-proof protection for the controller.
