The 4S-SO2 sensor is a constant potential electrolytic gas sensor. SO2 gas and O2 undergo corresponding oxidation-reduction reactions at the working electrode and counter electrode, releasing charges to form a current. The magnitude of the current is proportional to the gas concentration, and the gas concentration can be determined by testing the current magnitude.
