To measure the isotopic content of water in plants and soil, it is necessary to extract the water without fractionation. In the past 40 years, researchers have invented many extraction techniques, including mechanical extrusion, centrifugation of immiscible liquids, azeotropic distillation, vacuum distillation, and so on. Among these methods, vacuum distillation has been increasingly used due to its simple operation and the absence of toxic solvents, gradually becoming the standard method for water extraction.
LI-2000 is a plant soil moisture vacuum extraction system produced by LICA in 2010, based on the summary of past successful experiences and shortcomings, through extensive material selection, multiple tests, and repeated improvements. It is used as a supporting equipment for water isotope analyzers.
