Overview
Grant's GRD1 efficient bidirectional temperature gradient system was developed by Dr. A.J. Murdoch and Professor E.H. Roberts from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Reading, UK, founded in 1892. GRD1 is used to explore the response of samples to temperature (such as seed cultivation conditions, seed inspection, germplasm screening, etc.). Widely used in the research of seeds, small plants, animals, microorganisms, entomology, various sample components, materials, etc. The design principle is that the temperature gradient runs along the diagonal direction of the aluminum plate, generating a temperature difference. The sample is gradually heated and cooled from one corner to the opposite corner within the cavity. Grant's gradient system can perform multi-directional temperature cycling, and the system can explore unidirectional temperature gradients within a 24-hour cycle. In subsequent cycles, the system automatically advances along a right angle cycle and returns to its original position, providing all the necessary conditions for combining high and low temperatures.

GRD1Related applications
Based on research conducted by the University of Reading in the UK
Main applications
Seed incubation, germplasm screening, seed and plant physiology, entomology, biotechnology, microbiology, component analysis
Application 1
Hibernation stage seeds usually require germination to break the dormancy period, and the difference in pre culture temperature and germination temperature has a significant response to the germination rate of seeds. GRD1 can provide a large number of temperature optimization conditions to find the most suitable pre cultivation temperature for seeds, such as 18 ° C for seeds
Please refer to the pre culture temperature model proposed by Kebrab&Murdoch (1999a) for specific details
application2
GR1 can cycle temperature gradients in a single direction for a portion of the time within * *, and in a right angle direction for another period of time, while providing 196 different thermal energy environments. The quantitative results of temperature for two temperature cycles, continuous and changing, can be referred to Kebrab&Murdoch (1999b)
Application 3
Determination of germination rate
GRD1 can also be used for thermal time evaluation of germination status. Literature review by Ellis&Barrett (1994) and Kebrab&Murdoch (1999C)
Other applications
The diameter of GRD1 * large samples can reach a diameter of 30mm. The determination of nematode parasites refers to the paper on nematode parasite testing, completed by Ratnasinghe and Hague (1998)
