How to optimize the flux of anaerobic membrane bioreactor?
Date: 2025-07-24Read: 5
Optimization strategy for anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) flux:
1. Selection and design optimization of membrane components
Membrane pore size matching: Choose an ultrafiltration membrane with a suitable pore size (such as 0.01~0.1 μ m). A pore size that is too small can easily lead to a decrease in flux, while a pore size that is too large will result in insufficient retention effect.
• Membrane material characteristics: Hydrophilic or anti fouling modified membranes (such as PVDF coated membranes) are preferred to reduce pollutant adsorption.
Structural design: Adopting cross flow filtration or hollow fiber membrane modules to enhance membrane surface shear force and reduce concentration polarization.
2. Control of operating parameters
• Sludge concentration control: Maintain MLSS at 15-25g/L, too high will exacerbate membrane fouling, and too low will reduce treatment efficiency.
Optimization of hydraulic conditions:
Cross flow rate ≥ 3m/s to reduce particle deposition.
Intermittent suction (such as pumping for 8 minutes and stopping for 2 minutes) to alleviate pollution.
Temperature and pH: Medium temperature (35-38 ℃) and neutral pH (6.5-7.5) can enhance microbial activity and indirectly improve flux.
3. Pollution control and cleaning strategies
• Preprocessing reinforcement:
Fine grid (aperture<1mm) intercepts fiber impurities.
Coagulation precipitation (such as PAC addition) reduces colloid pollution.
• Cleaning cycle:
Physical cleaning: Daily air-water backwash (0.3MPa).
Chemical cleaning: Soak in sodium hypochlorite (500mg/L) or citric acid every month.
4. System integration and process collaboration
AnMBR+MPBR combination: Coupled with microalgae membrane reactor, utilizing algae metabolism to further degrade pollutants and reduce main membrane load.
• Organic Load (OLR) Balance: Adjust the OLR dynamically based on VFA and gas production (recommended 5-15kgCOD/(m ³ · d)) to avoid exacerbating membrane fouling caused by acidification.
5. Real time monitoring and maintenance
Key parameter monitoring: Emergency cleaning is required when the transmembrane pressure difference (TMP) is greater than 30kPa, and dissolved oxygen (DO) should be controlled at 0.2-0.5mg/L.
Membrane integrity inspection: Monthly detection of membrane filament damage and timely replacement of failed components.
Through the above comprehensive measures, the AnMBR flux can be significantly improved and the membrane life can be extended.
