•The molded glass business unit will rely on eight production bases spread across Europe, America, and Asia to build a strong independent enterprise, fully unleashing its strong growth potential
•Gresham Group will further advance its strategic transformation and strive to become a packaging system and solution provider focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
Gerresheimer is a global partner in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and skincare industries, committed to providing customers with globally leading innovative systems and solutions. After a comprehensive strategic evaluation of its molded glass business, the company has decided to divest the business and plans to initiate the subsequent sale process. The core objective of this strategic evaluation is to find multiple feasible solutions to achieve the best growth potential and enhance competitiveness in the molded glass business. The company currently believes that this business will have a broader development space outside the Gresham Group system. By acquiring Bormioli Pharma, Gresham has built a strong molded glass business unit with eight production bases in Europe, America, and Asia. Its product portfolio is diversified, covering multiple industries including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food and beverage. In 2024, this business unit achieved a revenue of approximately 735 million euros and an adjusted EBITDA profit margin of approximately 20%. The proposed asset divestment is a crucial step in Gresham's comprehensive transformation into a packaging systems and solutions provider focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, with the aim of creating a specialized product layout centered around primary packaging and drug delivery systems.
We believe that the newly established strong molded glass business unit will have better growth opportunities outside of the Gresham Group, "explained Dietmar Siemssen, CEO of Gresham Group." As an important part of the company's strategic transformation, Gresham will further focus on providing packaging systems and solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
Global 'glass molding giant'
The molded glass business after the merger of Gresheim and Bormioli Pharma has eight production bases in Germany, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and India, with approximately 3700 employees. In the fiscal year 2024, the company achieved a revenue of approximately 735 million euros and an adjusted EBITDA profit margin of approximately 20%. This business department has rich professional skills and global production capabilities, covering Type I, II, and III glass products, and providing value-added services including decoration technology and customization. Its diversified product portfolio covers all kinds of glass packaging and is widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and beverage industries, such as bottles, containers, glass cans and perfume bottles.
Gracheim has been continuously investing in and upgrading the production technology of all its molded glass factories. For example, in the past two years, the company has invested approximately 100 million euros in expansion and upgrading projects at its molded glass factory in Lohr am Main, Germany, installing a technologically advanced and energy-efficient oxygen blending furnace.
The separation of the molded glass business has officially started
As part of the integration into the Gresham Group, Bormioli Pharma has begun to transform the merged molded glass business into a globally independent and strong business unit. This decision marks the official start of the divestment process. Subsequently, the company will plan to initiate the sales process. Gresham will provide further details and updates on Capital Market Day on October 15, 2025.
Gresham further focuses on the fields of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology
The peel molded glass business is an important step in Gresham's transformation into a packaging systems and solutions provider focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, with the aim of continuously increasing the company's professional product proportion in the field of biologics and other high value-added solutions. By acquiring Bormioli Pharma, Gresheim has expanded its product portfolio by adding more pharmaceutical primary packaging, sealing solutions, accessories, and delivery systems, while opening up new opportunities for systematic integration of high-value plastic solutions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields.
