For patients with diabetes, pen insulin syringe is not only a tool for daily treatment, but also a "pen of life" related to the quality of life. It helps patients complete insulin injections on time and in the right amount, maintaining stable blood sugar levels with its precise and convenient features. However, long-term use without scientific maintenance may lead to inaccurate dosage, needle blockage, mechanical failure, and even infection risk. Mastering the correct regular maintenance method for pen insulin syringes is the key to ensuring their accuracy and reliability at all times.

1、 Daily cleaning: Keep the exterior clean
After each use, use a clean soft cloth dipped in a small amount of water or 75% alcohol to gently wipe the pen body shell, removing sweat stains, dust, and possible residual medication. Do not immerse the entire injection pen in water or rinse it with a nozzle to prevent damage to the internal mechanical structure caused by water ingress. Pay special attention to cleaning the dosage knob, button, and pen holder area to avoid dirt accumulation that may affect operation.
2、 Regular check: prevent problems before they happen
Conduct a comprehensive inspection once a week:
Check the pen core: Confirm whether the insulin is clear and free of sediment (quick acting/short acting) or evenly suspended (medium/long acting), expired or deteriorated medication must be replaced.
Check the needle: It is necessary to use a brand new sterile needle for each injection, and reuse is strictly prohibited. Immediately remove and discard in the sharps box after use to prevent backflow contamination of the medication or blunt needle damage to the skin.
Inspection function: Execute the "dose emptying" test in an empty pen state - rotate to 2 units, lightly tap the needle tip upwards, press the injection button, observe whether there are liquid droplets ejected, and ensure smooth dispensing.
3、 Proper storage: Extend service life
When the pen core is not installed, store the injection pen at room temperature (15-30 ℃), dry, and away from light. Do not freeze or expose to high temperatures (such as inside a car or direct sunlight). The insulin pen in use can be carried with you, but avoid vigorous shaking. Spare pen refills should be refrigerated (2-8 ℃) and warmed to room temperature before use.
4、 Avoid falling and impact
The interior is a precision mechanical structure, and falling may cause dose adjustment failure or damage to internal components. It is recommended to use a dedicated storage box for protection, especially when going out.
5、 Regular replacement and professional maintenance
Although there is no strict replacement cycle, if dose adjustment is found to be stuck, button rebound is weak, the shell is broken or leaking, it should be immediately stopped and replaced with a new pen. Some brands provide maintenance services and can be regularly inspected to ensure accuracy.
