Protection for the use of Bole Fei viscometer
Date: 2025-12-22Read: 3

Compact and preciseBrookfield viscometerIt has its own set of standard operating methods. In order to obtain long-term stable, reliable, and accurate test data, please be sure to follow the operation manual or instructions of the viscometer. Below, we will share some seemingly insignificant but crucial basic instrument protection during use.

Instrument protective cap

  • During the movement or transportation of the viscometer, it is necessary to install a protective cap. This can prevent the gemstone bearing system from experiencing strong collisions and friction, which can lead to inaccurate or even damaged viscosity measurements.

  • Remember to remove the protective cap of the instrument before starting or operating it. Although the action is small, it cannot be ignored.

Loading, unloading, and cleaning of rotors

  • All Brookfield viscometers can measure the extremely small torque changes caused by the rotation of the rotor in the sample fluid. Therefore, it is required that the friction inside the instrument be kept to a minimum.

  • Brookfield laboratory standard viscometer through shaft tip(PIVOT POINT)The support system composed of JEWELED BEARING bearings has almost no friction. This support system is located inside the PIVOT CUP, directly above the installation position of the rotor, as shown in the following figure. When installing or uninstalling the rotor, any downward force or lateral movement will cause significant wear on this support system.

Loading and unloading of rotors

  • When tightening or loosening the rotor, the correct way to install and unload the rotor is to gently lift the nut at the location where the rotor is installed, and then firmly lift it upwards. Also remember: the rotor is fixed in the opposite direction of the threaded line (left-hand direction).

  • If you are using a Brookfield cone plate instrument, be sure to use the wrench provided by Brookfield when installing and uninstalling the cone rotor, and carefully turn the nut at the installation rotor upwards.

  • Following the correct operation method described above can ensure that your Brookfield viscometer orrheometerCan provide reliable services in the long term. In addition, the annual recommended gemstone support system calibration has become a part of the calibration service.

Cleaning of rotor

  • Remove the rotor from the instrument before cleaning. If not removed, it may cause serious damage to the instrument.

  • The rotor is made of stainless steel material and can be cleaned with a soft cloth and a solvent that is soluble in the sample but not corrosive to the immersed parts.

  • When cleaning the rotor, do not apply too much force to avoid bending the rotor. Or use a hard object to scrape the rotor. Bending or scratching of the rotor can affect the accuracy of the measurement.

Operation bonus item - oscillation check

Quick oscillation inspection can help determine the condition of the gemstone bearing system of the instrument. The steps are as follows:

  1. Without installing the rotor, turn on the power and observe whether the instrument's display automatically returns to zero;

  2. Select the display mode based on the model of the instrument, and enter some values appropriately to see the torque percentage displayed on the screen;

  3. Observe whether the torque percentage value is within -0.2% to+0.2%;

  4. Start the motor to achieve a speed of 10RPM or 12RPM;

  5. When the motor starts to rotate, the torque percentage reading fluctuates. Within a few seconds, the torque percentage reading will stabilize and its value should still be displayed within -0.2% to+0.2%;

  6. Then stop the motor again. When the torque percentage stabilizes, its value should still be within -0.2% to+0.2%. If the torque percentage is not within this range, it indicates that the gemstone bearing system of the instrument has been damaged to some extent. Continue repeating the calibration steps. If the calibration check still falls outside the allowable range, it is highly likely that the instrument needs to be recalibrated or the gemstone bearing system needs to be replaced.
