Classification and grading of pressure vessels
Date: 2024-09-19Read: 9
A pressure vessel refers to a closed equipment that holds gas or liquid and carries a certain pressure.
As an important component in the industrial field, pressure vessels play a crucial role in storing and transporting high-pressure gases, liquids, or solid substances.
In order to implement scientific management and safety supervision more effectively, China's "Pressure Vessel Safety Supervision Regulations" classify pressure vessels into three categories based on work pressure, medium hazard, and their role in production. This article will explain the classification and grading of pressure vessels.
1、 Divided by the level of pressure they can withstand: low-pressure vessels, medium pressure vessels, high-pressure vessels, and ultra-high pressure vessels.
Low pressure vessels: generally capable of withstanding pressures below 0.1 MPa (megapascals), representative products include common liquefied gas tanks, water tanks, storage tanks, etc.
Medium pressure vessels: capable of withstanding pressures between 0.1MPa and 10MPa, representative products include gas storage tanks, hot water boilers, steam boilers, etc.
High pressure vessels: capable of withstanding pressures between 10MPa and 100MPa, representative products include high-pressure gas storage tanks, high-pressure steam boilers, compressed air storage tanks, etc.
Ultra high pressure vessels: capable of withstanding pressures exceeding 100MPa, representative products include high-pressure gas cylinders, high-pressure reactors, ultra-high pressure steam boilers, etc.

2、 Classified by the medium of packaging: non flammable, non-toxic; Flammable or toxic; Highly toxic.
Non flammable and non-toxic containers: mainly used to contain some non flammable and non-toxic media, such as air, water, food, etc. Representative products include water tanks, air storage tanks, food storage tanks, etc.
Flammable or toxic containers: mainly used to contain flammable or toxic media, such as gas, petroleum products, chemicals, etc. This type of container requires special design and safety measures to ensure that the medium does not leak or cause hazards such as fire and explosion. Representative products include gas tanks, oil storage tanks, chemical storage tanks, etc.
Highly toxic container: mainly used to contain highly toxic media, such as certain hazardous chemicals, radioactive substances, etc. These types of containers require higher safety requirements and strict controls in their design and use to prevent harm to human health and the environment. Representative products include storage tanks for highly toxic chemicals, storage containers for radioactive substances, etc.

3、 According to the different functions in the process, it can be divided into the following categories:
Reaction vessel: used to carry high pressure and high temperature conditions generated during chemical reactions or physical processes. Representative products include reactors, synthesis reactors, polymerization reactors, etc.
Separation container: used to separate mixtures according to different physical or chemical properties, such as distillation, extraction, adsorption, and other processes. Representative products include distillation towers, extraction towers, adsorption towers, etc.
Storage container: used for storing various media such as liquids, gases, or liquefied gases. Representative products include storage tanks, gas storage tanks, liquid oxygen storage tanks, etc.
Heat transfer container: used to transfer heat and achieve the process of heating or cooling. Representative products include heat exchangers, evaporators, condensers, etc.
Drying container: used for drying or dehumidifying substances, usually under high temperature or vacuum conditions. Representative products include dryers, vacuum drying ovens, etc.
Storage container: used for transporting and storing liquids or gases, ensuring their safety and sealing. Representative products include transport tanks, storage and transportation containers, etc.
