1. Feeding stage: The suspended liquid to be processed (liquid containing solid particles) is pumped or guided to the filter press.
2. Filter chamber: A box type filter press usually contains one or more filter chambers, each of which has a series of filter plates and filter cloth. The filter plate is usually sturdy, while the filter cloth covers the surface of the filter plate.
3. Pre compression stage: Before conducting formal filtration, a pre compression stage is usually carried out. At this stage, the liquid is pumped into the filtration chamber and passes through the micropores of the filter cloth, leaving solid particles on the surface of the filter cloth, forming a preliminary filtration layer. This helps to improve the subsequent filtration efficiency
4. Filtration stage: Once the initial filtration layer is formed, the box filter press begins the formal filtration stage. The filter press squeezes liquid from the suspension by applying high pressure, allowing it to pass through the filter cloth, while solid particles are filtered and left on the surface of the filter cloth.
5. Filtrate discharge: The filtered clear liquid (filtrate) passes through the filter cloth aperture and is discharged into the corresponding container through the drainage system.
6. Filter cake treatment: Solid particles gradually accumulate on the filter cloth, forming a strong solid material layer, which is called a filter cake. After filtration is complete, it is usually necessary to remove the filter cake from the filter plate for processing or disposal.
7. Cleaning and reuse: The filter cloth and filter plate may accumulate impurities during use, so they need to be cleaned or replaced regularly. After cleaning, the box filter press can be used again for a new round of solid-liquid separation operations.
Overall, the box filter press achieves solid-liquid separation of suspensions by filtering liquids under high pressure using a combination of filter plates and filter cloth.
