What are the factors affecting the effect of high shear dispersing emulsifier
Date: 2019-02-28Read: 6

Homogenizers include high-pressure homogenizers and high shear homogenizers. High shear homogenizers mainly generate high shear effects due to the relative high-speed motion between the stator and rotor, accompanied by strong cavitation effects to disperse, refine, and homogenize material particles; The high-pressure homogenizer mainly relies on the strong and sufficient cavitation effect and turbulence generated by the high-pressure fluid to break down the particles in the dispersed phase of the fluid and achieve homogenization. It is not difficult to understand that due to the strong cavitation effect, high-pressure homogenizers are more suitable for processing soft and semi soft granular materials; Research has found that the effective force fields for fiber crushing are shear force and grinding force. Impact force at room temperature is powerless on fibers, while high shear homogenizers can produce strong shear and grinding effects on materials. Therefore, high shear homogenizers are more suitable for processing materials with high fiber content or those that are prone to thin milk layers and harder particles.

The factors that affect the homogenization results are as follows

1. Forms of homogenization head (batch and continuous) (continuous is better than batch)

2. Shear rate of homogenizer head (the higher, the better the effect)

The tooth profile structure of a homogeneous head (divided into initial teeth, middle teeth, fine teeth, ultra-fine teeth, with fine teeth having better effect)

The residence time and homogenization time of 4 materials in dispersed walls (can be regarded as equivalent motors, the smaller the flow rate, the better the effect)

5 cycles (the more, the better the effect, and by the end of the device's lifespan, it cannot be any better)

Calculation of linear velocity

The definition of shear rate is the relative velocity of the liquid layer between two surfaces.

- Shear rate (s-1)=v rate (m/s)
G distance between stator and rotor (m)

As can be seen from the above, the shear rate depends on the following factors:

- Linear velocity of the rotor

In this case, the distance between the two surfaces is the rotor stator spacing.
The spacing range between IKN stator and rotor is 0.2~0.4 mm

Speed V=3.14 X D (rotor diameter) X rotational speed RPM/60

The high rotational speed and shear rate of the ultra high speed dispersing and homogenizing emulsifier are important for obtaining ultrafine suspensions. According to some industry specific requirements, Yodi Company has developed the CTL3000 ultra high speed shear emulsifier machine based on the ECL3000 series. Its shear rate can exceed 200.00 rpm, and the rotor speed can reach 66m/s. Within this speed range, turbulence caused by shear forces combined with specially developed motors can reduce the particle size range to the nanometer level. The shear force is stronger, and the particle size distribution of lotion is narrower. Due to its high energy density, it can achieve the particle size of a regular high-pressure homogenizer at a pressure of 400BAR without the need for other auxiliary dispersing equipment
