Application of Steam Superheater in Chemical Equipment Heat Tracing
Date: 2025-12-17Read: 4

In chemical production, equipment such as storage tanks, pipelines, and reactor jackets often require heat tracing to maintain material temperature, prevent solidification of high viscosity materials (such as asphalt and paraffin), precipitation of easily crystallized materials (such as caustic soda), or ensure the fluidity and chemical stability of materials during transportation and storage. Traditional saturated steam heat tracing is prone to local temperature unevenness due to the accumulation of condensed water, resulting in "hot spots" or "cold spots". However, steam superheaters can achieve precise and uniform temperature control of the heat tracing process by providing temperature controlled dry superheated steam, adapting to the heat tracing needs of different materials.

For example, in the heat tracing of crude oil storage tanks, the viscosity of crude oil will sharply increase at low temperatures, affecting transportation efficiency. The steam superheater heats the steam to a superheated state of 120 ℃ -150 ℃, and indirectly transfers heat through the heat tracing coil on the outer wall of the storage tank, keeping the temperature of the crude oil in the tank stable at 40 ℃± 1 ℃, avoiding crude oil stratification or solidification, and ensuring stable flow during pump transportation; In the tracing of caustic soda solution pipelines, caustic soda solution is prone to crystallization and blockage of pipelines below 15 ℃. Using superheated steam tracing at 80 ℃ -90 ℃ can evenly maintain the temperature of the inner wall of the pipeline above 20 ℃. At the same time, the drying characteristics of superheated steam prevent pipeline corrosion caused by contact between condensed water and caustic soda solution, extending the service life of the pipeline.

For complex equipment that requires stepped heat tracing, such as multi-stage reactor jackets, the steam superheater can regulate the temperature of superheated steam through zoning to meet the temperature requirements of different sections of the reactor. For example, in a polymerization reactor, the upper section of the reactor body needs to maintain a preheating temperature of 80 ℃, and the lower section needs to maintain a reaction temperature of 120 ℃. The steam superheater can output superheated steam at 85 ℃ and 125 ℃ respectively to the corresponding jacket areas, achieving precise zone tracing and ensuring the orderly progress of the polymerization reaction.
