On December 12, 2025, Huazhong University of Science and Technology held a ceremony for the appointment of part-time professors in enterprises and a special report meeting. Dr. Xiong Youhui, Chairman and Dean of the Research Institute of Sifang Optoelectronics, has been appointed as a part-time professor for the company and will deliver a special report on "Deepening Materials Science and Technology, Achieving Innovation in the Sensor Industry".
At the report meeting, Dr. Xiong Youhui shared the scientific path and practical thinking of gas sensor industrialization. He stated that the industrialization of gas sensors needs to be based on three pillars: scientificity, completeness, and economy: scientificity relies on a deep understanding of gas recognition and signal conversion mechanisms; The completeness requires the construction of a complete technical chain from sensitive materials and sensing elements to signal processing and calibration algorithms; Economy requires a balance between performance, reliability, and cost. Taking products such as infrared gas sensors and MEMS air quality sensors AQS independently developed by Sifang Optoelectronics as examples, the critical role of breakthroughs in key materials in improving product performance and achieving autonomous controllability is demonstrated.
After the report was completed, an appointment ceremony was held, and Dr. Xiong Youhui was presented with a letter of appointment as a part-time professor by Liu Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Integrated Circuits. Secretary Liu Wei delivered a speech on behalf of the school, warmly welcoming and sincerely thanking Dr. Xiong Youhui for his visit and appointment. He stated that the addition of Dr. Xiong Youhui will inject important industry perspectives and practical power into the talent cultivation and scientific research transformation of the college, and will effectively promote the formation of a virtuous cycle of "scientific research industry education". This is not only an exploration of solving the mismatch between supply and demand of talents in the sensor field, but also an important starting point for school enterprise cooperation to overcome core technologies.
