Emulsification tank (supplied to Shaoxing/Hangzhou and other cities nationwide)
Date: 2025-05-21Read: 5
In many industrial fields, from daily cosmetics and delicious food to life-saving drugs, the texture, stability, and efficacy of many products rely on a common key technology: emulsification. The core equipment for implementing this technological process is the emulsification tank. It is far from a simple mixing container, but a precision system that integrates mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, chemical processes, and automatic control.
1、 Emulsification principle and core function of emulsification tank
To understand the importance of emulsification tanks, it is necessary to first understand the essence of emulsification. Emulsification refers to the process of mixing two immiscible liquids (usually oil and water), so that one phase is uniformly dispersed in the form of small droplets into the other phase, forming a stable emulsion. This process is thermodynamically unstable, and dispersed droplets tend to spontaneously aggregate and stratify.
The core mission of the emulsification tank is to efficiently complete this process and maximize the stability of the product. Its core functions can be decomposed into:
1. Dispersion and fragmentation: By high shear force, the internal phase (such as oil phase) is torn and fragmented into tiny droplets at the micrometer or even nanometer level. The smaller the droplets, the more uniform the distribution, and the more stable the lotion.
2. Mixing and Homogenization: Ensure that all components, including oil phase, water phase, emulsifiers, functional additives, etc., are evenly distributed at the molecular level within the system.
3. Heating and cooling: Many emulsification processes require specific temperatures (such as melting solid oils and fats) and rapid cooling and shaping after emulsification is complete to prevent product damage or droplet re aggregation.
4. Defoaming and Vacuum: Operating under vacuum conditions can remove bubbles introduced during material mixing, avoiding product oxidation and quality degradation, while obtaining denser and higher gloss products.
5. Precise control: Modern emulsion tanks can automatically and precisely control parameters such as temperature, pressure, stirring speed, and vacuum degree to ensure high consistency of each batch of products.
2、 Key Structure and Working Principle of Emulsification Tank
A typical emulsion tank system consists of the following key components:
Tank body: Usually made of stainless steel (such as 304 or 316L), it has good corrosion resistance and easy cleaning. Designed as a structure with a jacket for heating and cooling by introducing thermal oil or cold water.
Mixing system: This is the "heart" of the emulsifying tank. Usually, multiple sets of combined agitators are used:
Frame/anchor mixer: close to the tank wall, running at low speed, mainly used to generate large-scale macroscopic mixing, scrape the wall to prevent material coking, and improve heat transfer efficiency.
High speed homogenizer (high shear emulsifying head): the core working component. Usually located at the bottom or side wall of the tank, it consists of a high-speed rotating rotor and a fixed stator. When the material is sucked into the interior of the rotor, it is rapidly ejected from the narrow slit of the stator under the action of huge centrifugal force, subjected to strong shear, impact, and cavitation effects, thereby achieving ultrafine fragmentation and uniform dispersion of liquid droplets. Its rotational speed can reach thousands of revolutions per minute.
Heating and cooling system: The temperature is precisely controlled by the PLC system through the circulation of the medium inside the jacket.
Vacuum system: including vacuum pump, buffer tank, and pipeline, used to create and maintain a vacuum environment during the emulsification process.
Control System: Modern PLC or DCS control system, integrated human-machine interface (HMI), capable of inputting, storing, and calling process formulas, achieving automation and digital management of the entire process.
The basic workflow is as follows: feeding → preheating/melting → (under vacuum environment) starting combination mixing, first low-speed mixing → starting high-speed homogenizer for strong emulsification → insulation homogenization for a certain period of time → cooling → breaking the vacuum → discharging.

3、 The wide application fields of emulsion tanks
The technical characteristics of the emulsification tank make it a standard key equipment in the following industries:
1. Cosmetics and personal care products industry
This is one of the fields where emulsion tanks are widely used and have high requirements. Almost all cream, cream, dew and lotion products are inseparable from it.
• Product examples: face cream, lotion, essence, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, liquid foundation, etc.
Technical requirements: The requirements for hygiene level (GMP requirements), shear strength (pursuing nanoscale emulsification), temperature control accuracy, and cleaning (CIP/SIP) ability are very high. The skin feel, stability, and appearance glossiness of the product are directly determined by the performance and process of the emulsifying tank.
2. Food industry
Emulsification technology greatly improves the taste and stability of food.
Product examples: mayonnaise, salad dressing, ice cream, dairy beverages, plant-based protein drinks, seasoning sauces, minced meat products, etc.
Technical requirements: The equipment must comply with food grade hygiene standards (such as 3A standard), and the material usually requires 316L stainless steel. The focus is on the delicacy of taste, stability of shelf life, and efficient production capacity.
3. Pharmaceutical industry
In pharmaceuticals, emulsification is mainly used in the production of emulsions, creams, ointments, liposomes, emulsion type injections, etc.
Product examples: topical ointments, fat emulsion injections, microemulsion carrier drugs, etc.
Technical requirements: This is a strictly regulated field and must comply with cGMP requirements. The equipment must have verifiability (validation), traceability, and cleaning and sterilization capabilities. There are strict standards for the particle size distribution and bioavailability of products.
4. Chemical industry
Many chemical products also exist in the form of lotion.
Product examples: water-based coatings, paints, adhesives, inks, pesticide emulsions, textile auxiliaries, etc.
Technical requirements: More emphasis is placed on the durability of the equipment, the ability to handle high viscosity materials, and safety features such as explosion prevention.
Conclusion
As a fundamental but crucial equipment in modern process industry, the emulsification tank has a technology content and application breadth far beyond ordinary people's imagination. From a simple bottle of lotion to a lifesaving injection, the precise operation of this equipment is indispensable. It is not only a tool for physical mixing, but also a key pivot for achieving product innovation, ensuring stable quality, and improving industrial efficiency. With the continuous integration of new materials, new processes, and intelligent control technologies, emulsion tanks will continue to evolve, creating broader possibilities for various industries and silently supporting the delicate, stable, and beautiful experiences in our lives.
