Safety protection measures during shield tunneling sludge treatment process: Guidelines for risk management throughout the entire process
Date: 2025-10-25Read: 10

1、 Personal protection for personnel: building the 'first safety barrier'

The operators have direct contact with sludge and treatment equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is a basic and critical means of protection. It needs to be equipped according to different work processes, and must ensure correct wearing and regular inspection
  1. Head protectionWhen entering the processing workshop or work site, it is necessary to wear a safety helmet that meets national standards to prevent risks such as equipment component falling and head collision with equipment edges. Especially during the maintenance of plate and frame filter presses and sludge transfer equipment, it is necessary to check whether the inner lining and straps of the safety helmet are intact.

  2. Eye and facial protectionSplashes may be generated during the mixing and transportation of sludge, and dust may be raised during the unloading of the plate and frame filter press. It is necessary to wear impact goggles or face shields; If the sludge contains corrosive substances (such as acid-base agents used to adjust the pH value), special protective goggles must be used to prevent chemical corrosion and avoid splashing the liquid into the eyes.

  3. Respiratory protectionChoose protective equipment based on the type of pollutant - if dust is generated during the sludge drying and dry sludge stacking process, wear dust masks (N95 or above level); If chemical agents (such as coagulants that may release irritating gases when dissolved) are used, they need to be upgraded to gas masks (with corresponding filter boxes), and the work area should be kept ventilated to avoid the accumulation of toxic gases.

  4. Limb protectionWear anti-static and scratch resistant workwear on the upper body, and wear wear-resistant work pants on the lower body; Hands should wear double-layer gloves - the inner layer is anti slip latex gloves (to isolate sludge infiltration), and the outer layer is nitrile gloves (to prevent chemical corrosion and mechanical scratches), especially when adding chemicals, cleaning filter cloth, or coming into contact with sludge; Wear anti smashing and anti slip safety shoes on the feet to prevent slipping on the ground, heavy objects hitting the feet, or sharp objects scratching.

2、 Equipment operation safety: eliminate mechanical and electrical risks

Shield tunneling sludge treatment involves various equipment such as plate and frame filter presses, sludge mixing tanks, conveying pumps, and screw conveyors. There are safety hazards in the mechanical transmission, high-voltage components, and electrical systems during equipment operation, and strict and standardized operation is required
  1. Check before starting the equipmentBefore each startup, it is necessary to confirm the equipment status - the plate and frame filter press needs to check whether the filter plate is aligned and whether the clamping mechanism is normal to avoid sludge leakage caused by misalignment of the filter plate during operation; The sludge conveying pump needs to check whether the pipeline connection is firm to prevent the pipeline from bursting due to excessive pressure; All emergency stop buttons and protective barriers (such as protective covers for transmission parts) of the equipment must be intact and undamaged. It is strictly prohibited to turn on the machine if they are missing or damaged.

  2. Safety control during operationOperators need to stick to their posts and observe the operating parameters of the equipment in real time (such as pressure, sludge level, and motor temperature of the filter press). If there are any abnormalities (such as sudden pressure rise, abnormal noise, or mud leakage), they must immediately press the emergency stop button, cut off the power, and troubleshoot. It is strictly prohibited to operate with faults; It is strictly prohibited to insert hands or tools into dangerous areas such as transmission parts and filter plate gaps during equipment operation. If it is necessary to clean the filter cloth or conduct maintenance, the power must be cut off first and a "Do Not Close" warning sign must be hung, and a dedicated person must be arranged for supervision.

  3. Electrical safety protectionDealing with workshop floors that are prone to water accumulation (such as sludge leakage and equipment cleaning), all electrical equipment (switches, sockets, motors) must have waterproof and moisture-proof properties, and be well grounded to avoid electric shock accidents caused by leakage; Regularly check whether the insulation layer of cables and wires is damaged, and replace it in a timely manner if aging or damage is found; Operators are strictly prohibited from touching electrical switches when their hands are wet. When cleaning equipment, they must avoid electrical components and turn off the power if necessary.

3、 Environmental and Chemical Safety: Preventing Secondary Risks

The use of chemical agents (such as coagulants and conditioners) is involved in the treatment of shield tunneling sludge, and the sludge may produce odors and leachate. Environmental control and chemical protection should be carried out to avoid pollution and harm:
  1. Chemical Storage and Use SafetyCoagulants, acid-base agents, etc. should be stored separately, away from sources of fire and heat, and clearly labeled (such as "corrosive" and "flammable"). Mixing with food and daily necessities is strictly prohibited; When preparing the medication, it is necessary to strictly follow the operating procedures to control the concentration and avoid splashing of the medication. If it accidentally comes into contact with the skin or eyes, it is necessary to immediately rinse with a large amount of water (weak alkaline water can be used for acidic medication, and weak acidic water can be used for alkaline medication). In severe cases, seek medical attention in a timely manner; The drug storage area should be equipped with emergency eye wash stations and sprinkler systems, and the shelf life of the drugs should be checked regularly. Expired drugs should be disposed of according to hazardous waste standards and cannot be discarded at will.

  2. Work environment controlVentilation systems (such as exhaust fans and negative pressure ventilation devices) need to be installed in the processing workshop to reduce dust and odor concentrations and prevent operators from inhaling harmful gases for a long time; When sludge leaks, it should be cleaned up in a timely manner using specialized tools such as scrapers and suction machines to collect the leaked sludge and avoid falling due to slippery ground. The cleaned sludge should be re sent to the treatment system and cannot be discharged arbitrarily; The leachate and cleaning wastewater generated during homework must be connected to a dedicated pipeline network and transported to the sewage treatment system for treatment. It is strictly prohibited to discharge them directly into the municipal pipeline network or natural environment to prevent soil and water pollution.

  3. Sludge transportation safetyAfter pressure filtration, the dry mud cake needs to be transported by a sealed transport vehicle. During loading, the dry mud should be avoided from scattering and generating dust. The transport vehicle should be cleaned regularly to prevent residual sludge from polluting the road; During the transportation process, a fixed route should be planned to avoid densely populated areas. When loading and unloading dry mud, operators should wear dust masks to prevent dust inhalation.

4、 Emergency response and training: strengthening risk response capabilities

Even with proper early protection, unexpected situations such as electric shock, chemical leakage, and equipment failure may still occur. It is necessary to establish a sound emergency mechanism to ensure quick and safe disposal
  1. Emergency plan and equipment allocationDevelop targeted emergency plans, clarify the handling procedures for sudden situations such as electric shock, chemical burns, sludge leakage, and fires, and organize regular drills (at least once every quarter) to familiarize operators with emergency procedures; Emergency supplies such as first aid kits (including bandages, burn ointment, etc.), fire extinguishers (dry powder or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers should be used for electrical fires), absorbent cotton (used to absorb chemical leaks), emergency lighting equipment should be equipped at the work site, and emergency supplies should be regularly checked for completeness and adequacy.

  2. Personnel safety trainingAll operators must undergo pre job safety training and pass the assessment before they can take up their posts. The training content includes equipment operating procedures, safety protection measures, chemical characteristics, and emergency response methods; Regularly conduct safety retraining (at least once every six months), update safety knowledge, and strengthen risk awareness; Before the new equipment is put into use, special training should be provided to the operators to ensure familiarity with the equipment structure and safety operation points, and to avoid accidents caused by unskilled operation.
