pharmamachCorporate NewsIntroduction to intraocular pressure and tonometer

Nowadays, with the increasing number of electronic devices, it is common to see people looking down playing with their phones and watching videos. It is also common to see people staying up late lying in bed staring at their phones or computer screens for hours without rest. This can cause significant eye damage and lead to many eye diseases. So protecting your eyes is something that needs to be taken care of at all times.

Similar to the concept of blood pressure, intraocular pressure is the abbreviation for the pressure inside the eyeball, which is the balanced pressure exerted by the contents of the eye on the eyeball wall. If the intraocular pressure is too high, you should confirm whether you have glaucoma, diabetes, myopia and other diseases, and adjust your daily habits in time, such as ensuring emotional stability and sleep.

And the tonometer is a machine that measures the intraocular pressure of the human eye, which can assist in the diagnosis of eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma. It usually consists of a corneal shape change generator, a corneal deformation measurement system, or a contact corneal device and a pressure sensor. The intraocular pressure of a normal person remains stable within a certain range to maintain the normal shape of the eyeball, while ensuring the maximum optical performance of the refractive stroma. The normal range of intraocular pressure is 1.47-2.79kPa (11-21mmHg).

A small suggestion is that if you are looking at your phone at night, remember to turn on the lights because prolonged use of computers and phones in dark light can easily lead to increased intraocular pressure and glaucoma.
