This product is extracted and refined from brown seaweed plants using dilute alkali, and its main component is the sodium salt of alginate.
【 Appearance 】 This product is a white to light brownish yellow powder.
This product swells into a colloidal solution in water and is insoluble in ethanol.
[Identification] (1) Take 0.2g of this product, add 20ml of water, shake it constantly until evenly dispersed, and use it as the test solution. Take 5ml and add 1ml of 5% calcium chloride solution to generate a large amount of gel like precipitate.
(2) Take 5ml of the test solution under item (1) and add 1ml of dilute sulfuric acid to generate a large amount of gel like precipitate.
(3) Take about 10mg of this product, add 5ml of water, 1ml of newly prepared 1% ethanol solution of 1,3-dihydroxynaphthalene and 5ml of hydrochloric acid, shake well, boil for 3 minutes, cool, add 5ml of water and 15ml of isopropyl ether, shake well. Simultaneously conduct blank experiments. The upper solution should appear dark purple.
(4) Take the residue under the ignition residue item, add 5ml of water to dissolve it, and observe the identification reaction of sodium salt (General Rule 0301).
[Inspection] Clarity and color of the solution: Take 0.10g of this product, add an appropriate amount of water and stir continuously to dissolve. Dilute with water to 30ml, shake well, and let it sit for 1 hour. Accurately measure 1ml and place it in a 10ml volumetric flask. Dilute with water to the mark, shake well, and check according to the regulations (General Rules 0901 and 0902). The solution should be clear and colorless; If it appears turbid, it should not be thicker compared to the turbidity standard solution No. 2 (General Rule 0902, Method 1); If the color appears, it should not be darker compared to the Yellow No.2 standard colorimetric solution (General Rule 0901, Method 1).
