In response to the growing demand for dry powder cell culture medium production, Purdue has launched its self-developed CMS1000 cell culture medium process system, which combines needle crushers and cone mixers to meet customers' various dry powder material crushing needs.

The challenge of cell culture medium production lies in the large number of formulas, which contain many different components with varying packing densities, particle sizes, flowability, and so on. The general production process steps for cell culture media are: formulation pre mixing crushing post mixing packaging.

The cell culture medium continuous production system developed by Pudu Tech, with needle disc grinding as the core, integrates "pre mixing, crushing, and post mixing" and can be used to produce batches of dry powder cell culture medium ranging from 2kg to 4000kg.

Nail disk grinding

Needle disc grinder and nail disc grinder are fine impact crushers with one or two rotating discs driven by high-speed explosion-proof motors, covered with nail shaped pins. The relative speed of the outer edge pins on the rotating disk can reach 250 m/s. The nail disc mill achieves ultrafine grinding by impacting the material without damaging the crystal structure of the material. The rotating disc grinding component of the nail disc grinder has multiple forms to choose from, and the fineness can be adjusted by changing the needle disc speed, so it can flexibly handle the fineness requirements of various raw materials and products.

In the production of cell culture media, needle disc mills are often used as crushing components for producing ultrafine and uniform powder products, with a powder particle size control range of 10um-200um and adjustable particle size range.

Mixer

Cell culture medium process systemGenerally, it is divided into pre mixing and post mixing. Depending on the viscosity of the material, a cone mixer or a blade mixer can be used.

Cone mixer is a convection mixer. Its gentle mixing force ensures high mixing degree without damaging the material particles.

The cantilever mixing screw is connected to a cantilever that rotates around a conical cavity, while the screw itself also rotates to form convective mixing and shearing of the material. The average rotational speed of the screw itself is 70 rpm, while the rotational speed of the cantilever is 1 to 2 rpm. The linear speed of the screw can be adjusted from 0.5 to 2m/s, making it suitable for all ATEX explosion-proof areas.

The rotating screw lifts the material from the bottom of the cavity to the top of the material. When the product particles circulate back under the action of gravity, the flow velocity of the particles will increase due to the structure of the conical cavity. The combination of these effects provides deep mixing and ensures high mixing performance even with low energy consumption.

In order to avoid cross contamination between batches, the mixer is equipped with an arc-shaped or hemispherical cover (welded to the cavity and integrated with it), gas seal, and special internal polishing to meet the cleanliness requirements.

The mixer is equipped with detachable or fixed spray balls for internal cleaning. All sprinkler positions have been carefully designed and selected to ensure cleaning of the inner surface, including the nozzle. During the FAT process, we will conduct riboflavin testing to verify the integrity of the spray.
