Silver containing wound dressings are an advanced healing technique that utilizes the antibacterial properties of silver to prevent infection.
These dressings consist of multiple layers including wound pads, which contain silver and are made of non-woven polymer fibers that absorb liquids. These fibers are separated from the wound by a polyolefin membrane, and a wound prevention pad is attached to the wound.
The effectiveness of such dressings depends on the physical and chemical properties of silver and the distribution of silver in the dressing. If the concentration of silver ions is too high, ions may be released from the dressing and cause cytotoxic effects.
