Hardware and Data Acquisition Technology
The hardware design of the instrument and the efficient and comprehensive data acquisition workflow make the Orbitrap IQ-X Tribrid mass spectrometer the preferred solution for small molecule identification, characterization, and quantification.
Instrument hardware design and intelligent data acquisition
The mature Tribrid architecture combines quadrupole, linear ion trap, and Thermo Scientific Orbitrap HRAM technology to obtain rich MSn data in each sample. Multiple fragmentation techniques, including collision induced dissociation (CID), high-energy collision dissociation (HCD), and optional ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD), can be used at any stage of MSn, and subsequent mass analysis can be performed in ion traps or ultra-high resolution Orbitrap mass analyzers.
The reason why the Orbitrap IQ-X Tribrid mass spectrometer can obtain reliable results is due to its flow technology. The Auto Ready ion source is calibrated and maintained with specialized hardware specifications to ensure consistent performance throughout its entire lifecycle. The Thermo Scientific EASY-IC ion source uses a second ion source to generate specific calibration ions, adjusting the instrument's mass accuracy in real-time to less than 1 ppm, and correcting the mass accuracy of scanned changes and deviations. Advanced quadrupole technology includes segmented quadrupole mass filters, which can achieve high transmission with a narrow isolation width as low as 0.4 m/z, improving sensitivity and selectivity. At m/z 200, the ultra-high field Orbitrap analyzer can achieve a resolution of up to 500000, distinguishing between target ions and interfering ions. For fine isotope structures, the optional resolution can reach up to 1000000 (1M) resolution. The dual pressure linear ion trap can provide the highest MSn rate of 45Hz and perform sensitive mass analysis on three complementary cleavage types: CID, HCD, and optional UVPD.
