The stable operation of disc centrifuges directly affects production efficiency and separation quality in solid-liquid separation processes in industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, and food. During long-term use, centrifuges may encounter various operational problems due to factors such as operating habits, material characteristics, and equipment wear and tear. Below are several common problems and corresponding solutions based on practical application scenarios.
Common problems and solutions of disc centrifuge
1. Abnormal vibration and excessive noise
Reason: Failure of rotary balance (such as disc fouling, deformation, or damage), bearing wear, uneven installation foundation, or unstable feed flow rate.
Performance: The device shakes violently during operation, accompanied by harsh friction or impact sounds.
Handling:
Immediately stop the machine, check if the anchor bolts are loose, and manually rotate the drum to confirm its flexibility.
Disassemble the drum, clean the disc group and inspect for damage, replace worn bearings, and calibrate the drum using a dynamic balancing machine.
Regularly clean the disc gap, control the feed flow rate (it is recommended to install a steady flow tank), and avoid overloading operation.
2. Decreased separation efficiency
Reasons: blockage of disc gap, failure to reach design speed, changes in material properties (such as increased viscosity), or blockage of slag discharge outlet.
Performance: After separation, the light or heavy phase is turbid, and the solid residue exceeds the standard.
Handling:
Check and clean the solid particles or coke in the disc gap, and adjust the speed to the design value.
Detect the solid content and viscosity of the material, and dilute or pretreat it if necessary.
Clear the slag discharge outlet to ensure that the size of the overflow outlet matches the material characteristics.
3. Motor overload or heating
Reason: Excessive feed volume, belt slippage, electrical system phase loss or unstable voltage.
Performance: Motor current exceeds the set value, shell temperature rises sharply, triggering overheating protection shutdown.
Handling:
Reduce the feeding amount or concentration, check the belt tension and gearbox oil level.
Detect electrical system voltage and phase, repair phase loss or voltage fluctuation issues.
4. Sealing leakage
Reason: Aging of the sealing ring, residual particles at the drum shaft seal, or loose flange bolts on the shell.
Performance: The separation liquid is turbid, the bearing chamber leaks oil, and in severe cases, the material leaks out.
Handling:
Replace the aging sealing ring and clean the solid particles at the shaft seal.
Tighten the flange bolts and check if the O-ring is malfunctioning.
5. Speed fluctuation or inability to start
Reason: Fault in frequency converter, insufficient pressure in hydraulic feeding system, or malfunction of centrifugal friction brake.
Performance: The tachometer pointer shakes, or the drum does not respond after starting.
Handling:
Check the parameters of the frequency converter and PLC control signals, and calibrate the hydraulic system pressure.
Repair or replace faulty brake components.
