Working principle of high-pressure silica nano homogenizer
Date: 2025-06-25Read: 10
The core working principle of the high-pressure silica nano homogenizer is to utilize the combined effects of ultra-high pressure, strong shear force, void effect, turbulence, and collision to break and disperse micron or submicron sized silica aggregates or particles into uniform nano scale dispersions.
The workflow is as follows:
1. Pressure conveying: Materials containing silica particles (usually pre dispersed into slurry or suspension) are sucked in by a high-pressure plunger pump and pressurized to a set ultra-high pressure (usually above 100 MPa, and even up to 200-300 MPa or higher). This pressure is the key driving force behind the entire process.
2. High speed passage through a slit: The pressurized material is forced through an extremely precise homogenization valve (Interaction Chamber) at a high speed (close to the speed of sound). This homogeneous valve usually consists of a valve seat and an adjustable clearance valve core, with a very small gap (micrometer level) between the two.
3. Intense release and mixing of energy:
Strong shear force: When the material flows through narrow gaps at high speed, due to the huge velocity gradient, strong shear forces are generated between the material layers, which shear and tear apart the silica particles.
Cavitation: Sudden release of pressure to atmospheric or lower pressure areas under high pressure (after the outlet of the homogenization valve).
Turbulence and collision: When materials are ejected at high speed from gaps into low-pressure chambers, intense turbulence is generated. Intense collisions and friction occur within the material flow and between the material flow and the valve body wall.
4. Particle fragmentation and dispersion: These three physical forces (shear, void, collision/turbulence) work together in a very short time (millisecond level) and a very small space, producing a huge energy density. These energies act on the aggregates of silica particles or slightly larger particles, overcoming the attractive forces such as van der Waals forces and electrostatic forces between particles, effectively breaking and dispersing them into smaller and narrower distributed nanoparticles. At the same time, this process also promotes the dispersant (if used) to more evenly coat the surface of the newly formed particles, preventing them from re aggregating.
5. Single or multiple processing: Depending on the target particle size distribution and stability requirements, the material may only need to pass through the homogenization valve once or need to be cycled through the homogenization valve multiple times to achieve the best nano dispersion effect.
