The centrifuge drum is one of the key components of a centrifuge. On the one hand, the structure of the rotary drum plays a decisive role in the use, operation, production capacity, and power of the centrifuge; On the other hand, the drum itself rotates at high speed (its work is encapsulated and integrated with various CAD/CAE tool software). At present, the design concept of this integrated system has been applied to the CAX information integration system design for injection molding machine development, and the implementation effect is good. The next step is to maximize the integration of various application tools and software tools.
(1) In practical engineering, it is not enough to only calculate the strength of the thin film area when designing and calculating the centrifuge drum. It is also necessary to calculate the strength of the edge effect area, because the stress in the edge effect area sometimes far exceeds the allowable stress. The drum designed according to the current drum design calculation method often tends to be conservative from a macro perspective (such as the bottom of the drum), with relatively large dimensions, which unnecessarily increases the mass of the drum. This not only increases the energy consumption of drum operation but also causes material waste, resulting in uneconomical considerations; From a microscopic perspective, the stress values in local areas (such as edge effect zones) often cannot be accurately estimated, which directly affects the safety of drum operation.
(2) For the edge effect zone, the values calculated using the formula derived from structural simplification during stress calculation not only have high approximation, but also show significant bias, resulting in poor practicality and credibility. The use of finite element analysis technology can effectively calculate the stress in the edge effect zone, and the calculated values are also close to reality, which should be well implemented in engineering practice.
(3) The use of local reinforcement and local optimization methods has a significant effect on reducing the stress values in local areas, and is a better method to solve the problem of insufficient strength in dangerous areas.
(4) Using the current drum design calculation method for preliminary design of the drum structure, followed by stress analysis of the drum using finite element technology, and correcting and optimizing local dimensions, should be one of the better methods for drum design at present. Especially by using CAD/CAE software integrated with finite element analysis software to perform finite element analysis on the drum, it is easy to correct and optimize the size of the drum.
(5) From the finite element stress analysis of the centrifuge drum, it is known that the stress level at the bottom of the drum is very low, indicating that the size of the drum bottom designed based on experience has a large margin. If finite element analysis can be conducted to optimize the dimensions of the drum bottom structure while considering stiffness, it will have more practical guidance significance for the design of the drum
