Theory
The principle is single electrode diffusion of negative charge. Corona discharge releases ions from the carrier gas, which combine with the surface of particles. The particles are collected on an insulating filter membrane and converted into a DC voltage signal in an amplifying electrostatic meter (resolution fA).
Negative charge characteristics of particulate matter diffusion: there are several seconds of response time, dynamic measurement, and low-cost methods; The range of particulate matter is wide, ranging from a few nm to over 10 μ m; The negative motor system is not affected by the chemical characteristics of particulate matter; By using both DC and PAS sensors for detection, different types of particulate matter can be distinguished, as in contrast to DC, the photoelectric load depends on the volume and surface area of particulate matter (carbonaceous substances); The combination of PAS and DC is very effective for analyzing combustion aerosols.
