Structure and principle: Octagonal gasket is made of metal material through forging, heat treatment, and mechanical processing. Its cross-sectional shape is octagonal and it is a standard R-shaped metal ring gasket. It is installed in the trapezoidal ring groove on the flange surface. When tightening the connecting bolts, the octagonal gasket is compressed axially and tightly adheres to the trapezoidal groove, causing plastic deformation to form a sealing band. After the pressure is increased, the medium pressure causes the ring gasket to expand radially and fit more closely with the trapezoidal groove slope, producing a self tightening effect. However, because it is also affected by flange and bolt deformation, it belongs to a semi self tightening seal.
Material selection: Common materials include carbon steel, stainless steel 304, 316, etc. Pure iron, aluminum, copper, nickel based alloys, etc. can also be selected according to specific working conditions. The selected material hardness should be 15-20HB lower than the flange surface.

Compared with other gaskets: Compared with the elliptical ring gasket, the octagonal gasket mainly matches the flange groove by surface contact. Although it is not easy to achieve a tight fit with the flange groove, it can be reused, and because the cross-section is composed of straight lines, it is relatively easy to process.
