Normal skin will experience a small amount of water loss, and in specific skin conditions, the loss value is much higher. The determination of TEWL is an important method for studying the changes in the skin barrier caused by various physical and chemical effects resulting from skin irritation. Typical application areas include efficacy evaluation of moisturizing cosmetics, formulation development of skincare products, and research and development of topical drugs for the skin. The accuracy of TEWL measurement is affected by environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, ventilation, and internal factors. At high humidity, due to the decrease in water vapor pressure gradient, the amount of water loss will be reduced. In order to maintain good skin condition, try to avoid factors that can increase TEWL, such as sun damage, harsh weather temperatures, clothing that can easily cause skin itching, and so on. So the measurement must be carried out under standard and stable conditions (constant temperature and humidity room).
In addition, TEWL measurement values may vary in different anatomical sites and are inversely proportional to the size of keratinocytes. Skin areas with smaller keratinocytes have higher TEWL values. There are usually two methods for measuring TEWL transdermal water loss: closed chamber method and open chamber method.
Used for transdermal water loss (TEWL) measurement in cosmetic efficacy evaluation, skin barrier protection function, dry eye syndrome research, etc. Adopting a closed cavity that is not affected by external airflow, it can accurately measure the percutaneous water diversion loss. Based on the humidity changes within the closed chamber, determine the amount of transdermal water loss. VAPO SCAN AS-VT100RS is a portable instrument that is convenient for users to carry around and measure without being restricted by direction and angle.
VAPOSCAN Transdermal Moisture Loss Measurement Instrumentfeature
*The locked cavity method is not affected by the turbulence and airflow of the ambient air, and can obtain correct data
*Trace or more water diversion losses are accurately measured through high-precision digital analog converters
*The measurement time is within 14 seconds. Gently press the skin with the opening of the cavity to measure the value
*Equipped with a high-performance CPU, it can monitor the humidity and temperature inside the chamber in real-time. Can automatically notify the appropriate measurement start time and automatically determine the measurement time
*The A/C adapter and battery can be interchanged, fully utilizing the advantages of portable devices
*The diameter of the opening is 12mm (standard configuration), and the small diameter is 6mm (optional accessory). By changing the size of the measuring probe opening, it can study the lips, scalp, nails, small animal skin, and eyes, etc
