Based on over a decade of experience in this field, we have adopted a four stage unit consisting of a liquid ring, an air-cooled Roots vacuum pump, a Roots vacuum pump with a bypass valve, and a Roots vacuum pump with a bypass valve as a better solution to this working condition. Of course, some units may also recommend air-cooled Roots vacuum pumps for front-end pumps, which are definitely not a problem in use. However, when using air-cooled Roots pumps as front-end pumps, due to its pressure difference of several hundred millibars, high noise and vibration, the noise is more than 20 decibels higher than that of liquid ring pumps. Moreover, the pumping efficiency decreases significantly between atmospheric and 400mbar, while liquid ring pumps have a constant pumping speed between atmospheric and 400mbar. Therefore, we recommend liquid ring pumps as front-end pumps.
