The OX-TRAN 2/12 series analyzer can test the oxygen permeability (OTR) of high and low barrier membranes and packaging. These analyzers are a low-cost option for reliable OTR analysis. They have 2 independent testing chambers with replaceable horizontal testing chambers, making it easy and accurate to test samples of various sizes and types.

This series of large-scale instruments has two models with different detection ranges, which are perfectly suitable for this type of application.

  • R 型(Low to High Barrier Material) - is MOCON's widest range OTR analyzer, with a detection range of 0.05 to 28800 cc/(m)2*Day) (Using a small testing chamber can achieve 255300 cc/(m)2* day))。

  • T-shaped(Highly Breathable Material) - Designed specifically for breathable barrier films, its detection range exceeds the working range of traditional OTR instruments, specifically ranging from 200 to 65000 cc/(m)2*Day) (Using a small testing chamber can reach 576200 cc/(m)2* day))。

The detection limit of any model can be extended, for example, by using a small area thin film test chamber (coefficient x9) or using oxygen from the atmosphere instead of ordinary 100% O2 (coefficient 4.8), or by using masks of various sizes.

This series features industry-leading features such as detachable and interchangeable horizontal test chambers, easy-to-use touchscreen interface, and fully automated testing, providing higher throughput in the laboratory.

Measuring the transmittance of oxygen through plastic films and sheets using various sensors

Standard testing methods

When the sample reaches equilibrium in a controlled testing environment, the oxygen permeability can be measured. It is important to carefully control the flow rate of the carrier gas (used for concentration detectors), relative humidity, temperature, and oxygen concentration in the carrier gas and permeation (testing) chamber.

Install the sample as a sealed semi barrier material between two chambers under ambient atmospheric pressure. The nitrogen flow slowly sweeps one chamber while the other chamber contains oxygen. When oxygen permeates through the membrane into the nitrogen carrier gas, it will be transported to the detector, generating a signal that reflects the oxygen permeation rate.
